I posted this in the group deal thread and will post it here to. Here is a quick fix: unscrew the bolt from the plastic and then shave down about 2 mm of plastic, then screw the bolts back in, that should do the trick.

looks much better whether or not you orange out or keep the way it is. Just don't put those black covers over the lights, those look awful and your just asking to get rear ended then.

Yes very quick fix and I will even have a picture up showing which one to shave down. And why you have to shave it down.

OK here are the pictures of the gap and of the screw to dremel down. It takes about 5 minutes to dremel them down. The screw is the top left on the right side. And on the left side it is the top right. Basically the black part that the screw goes into is the part that is too long and it hits against the metal and doesn't allow the light to sit flush.

We'll hey at least its not too short! that would be a bigger issue.

Can we see a larger or closer photo of it on your black maxima?

OK here is the gap eliminated if more pics are needed I can do some tomorrow. Sorry for jackin this thread too.

Overall I'm pretty happy with the tails. If the studs weren't so long there would be no problems. The look really good in person and have gotten a few compliments already.

As I mentioned in my other thread we had this problem in one of our samples but we had the factory correct them. We test fitted the new sample on both a 95 and 96 maxima and the fitment was perfect, so this puzzles me. I already have a call in to the factory right now to see what the issue is and will keep you posted. Thanks again for the info as this helps us make the product even better.

As far as the amber bulbs, we will be offering clear bulbs that still light up amber. Just have to locate some good ones then we will offer them with the lights.

Greg,
The best thing to do is hook Zach up with whatever he will need to make them look the best because it sounds as though he was a sort of Guinea Pig on this set? Was he test fitting for you guys at CE? I know some guys do that for the sake of R&D of new parts. Go all the way with him on this one, Greg. I'll bet it goes a long way for the image of the company considering all the nay sayers lately. I'm not in that group of haters, BTW. I've had excellent workings with CE over that past few years. Just my $.02, nothing more.

Looks like they are working on the fitment issues, so next batch should be okay.

So it seems that there are clear or silvered bulbs that glow amber when lit. What companies make these? What size bulb do these tails require? And lastly, how much do these bulbs generally cost?

Maybe Custom Enterprises can carry them on their site?

So basically, both left and right outter lenses have this problem. And, there's only one plastic stud on each side that is too long, am I correct?

This is not big deal at all! Zach used a dremel because it is the quickest way to do this. But you could even use a metal file or some kind of sharp cutter. No reason to whine about this issue. And Zach's attitude showed that he takes his modding seriously and nothing like this would stop him. When there's a will there's a way. I'd rather have this little glitch than pay over $200 on other red/clear tails. The issue is minimal compared to the savings. However, I do agree with everyone that hopefully, the next batch will have this issue ironed out.

When I get mine next week, I'll make sure to do this first. Zach, can you measure that stud that you trimmed down. That way I'll know if mine and others who've yet to receive their tails would need trimming or not. Just the length of the stud you shaved. Hope that makes sense.

you do not need amber glow.....even some volvo's came front the factory with an almost white turn signal when lit. And just like the silvania superstar 1157, and 1156 bulbs the make everything bluish and are 100% street legal.

an led bulb would look better, but overall the new tail light looks bad ***.....

Yeah it really isn't a bad issue at all. Just shave off about 2-3MM I just shaved a little at a time and test-fitted it to make sure I didn't go too far and to make sure I went far enough.

I forgot to mention that these tails look awesome on your dark Maxima. Those tails didn't look gawdy at all unlike many who commented as so. IMO, it looks perfect and having the tiny square pattern instead of just a plain foggy clear gave the Maxima a nice make-over. I am getting a pair of these to match the new tails.

Agreed. Don't trim anything until you know if it needs it. Supposedly most of them should fit perfect. We will see. Mine should be in by tomorrow. I'll let you know.

Update: Just spoke with the factory and they are making the necessary changes. I will be receiving another sample this week and will be test fitting them on a 95 and 96 maxima. I would like two different maximas to test them on. Is anyone willing to bring their max down to our shop for us to test fit the new samples on???? There will be a free set of taillights in it or you. If interested email me at Greg@CustomEnterprise.com, only need about 10 minutes of your time.

Thanks,
Greg

doesn't silverstar have some bulbs that are coated in a chrome/silver and then light up orange? i too am surprised at the fuss made over the orange. if you look at the CustomEnterprise pics, you can see in the white max that it is not orange, but clear. i'm sure there are other bulbs out there that light up orange, but silver when off. lightlens.com has a lot that are chrome coated that will probably work. seems to me the only problem is fitment and if custommaxima.com is right, a slight shave of the plastic fixes it?
keed the updates coming. i would love if these fit like stock!!

what about the altezzas? they are DOT legal and yet tails light up red. you do not need amber in the tails. what about jeep wranglers with just the solid red box for a tailight? anyway, you can still have amber lights that don't show up amber unless activated as i said in a previous post.

Depends on each individual state's laws. In PA turn signals must be amber. Also, in PA none of that blue light crap that causes distraction is allowed, along with the neon kits. May be different in Georgia. Could be I'm only thinking of the front turn signals...good input from you fellas either way, though.

Doc is right, it does depend on the individual state. Minor correction though, in PA the front signals need to be amber, the rears can be amber or red, just not white.

Still, you could probably find silver coated amber bulbs in Pep Boys or Advanced Auto, I vaguely remember seeing those in various sizes at some point in time.

I'm thinking of DTM'ing these CE red/clear tails. Hopefully they won't melt in the oven. I might try blow-drying with hot air around the edges first see if that would be enough to open these babies.

Just another thought........before I go to sleep. In California, turn signals must be white/yellow in the front and yellow/red in the rear. I wonder how the red will show thru the outter clear lense???

BTW, PIAA has something called "Mirror Orange" perfect for clear lenses. I believe the correct bulb type for our application is 1156.

hey, guys. i wasn't clear for sure. have the fitment issues been cleared up finally? does it just take that little dremel adjustment in order to get them to fit like stock? hopefully the next batch that is due to arrive next month will have this fixed and not be a problem.
