Nice find. But is anyone sure that the new tails use the same bulbs as stock? And is this the correct bulb, because I see 1156 AND 1157 listed for the tails (below). Are 1156 and 1157 interchangeable?
Tail: 1157
Stop: 1157
High Mount Stop: 1156
Backup Cornering: 1156,1157

So if there is a state law requiring that when you look at the taillights you have to see amber regardless of whether or not they are lit or not, does that mean then that the Lexus RX330 (I believe that's the SUV model) which has completely clear taillights-(when not lit) is an illegal car in your state?

Actually about the link i listed earlier...go to their site, the 1156's we want are about 3/4 down the page. Buy from there and you only pay shipping cost for one no matter how many you get. On ebay, you gotta pay separate shipping cost for each i think.

Thanks for the extra info! I'll go to their site instead then.
And lemme just stop and go way off subject and say MaximaPWR you have the funniest video clip on your signature i think ive ever seen. The reaction of the dude in the background is just classic.
Ok sorry continue the CE tails conversation...

OK guys. Just for fun, I painted a set of amber 1156 bulbs to put in my new tails. I'll let you know tomorrow how it turns out. The bulbs aren't on all of the time so heat is not the issue. It's wether you can get the paint on thin enough to cover the amber but not to thick to eliminate the light output. I'll let you know how it goes.

Cool. Let us know. And be specific about which paint you used if it works out.
But honestly, for the $3 each online, I'd just buy the silvered bulbs to save the messy trouble of trying to paint these things. Plus there's the slight risk of overheating (yes I know they only blink on and off) or melting the paint - or worse.)

Total cost $0
TMK the law in most of the USA is you have to have red relectors on the rear and on the rear side of the car. Your tail lights must illuminate red, reverse must be white, and rear blinkers can be amber or red. Amber stands out more than red, but you could use red bulbs too. You may want to look up the laws in your area, but I sincerely doubt anyone would give you any grief about it. I also think white blinkers look stupid.
In Japan and Europe I think the blinkers may have to illuminate amber even in the rear. That is why red/clears are so popular there. Many american cars just have red in the rear but most Japanese and European cars I have seen have some form of an amber blinker.

i hate to step on feet, but if you look in the national handbook of traffic safety, it clearly states that turn signals of amber, red, and/or WHITE are acceptable.

the rear needs a red reflector, red marker light, red brake lights and a red to amber (or any color in between) blinker.
the front needs an amber reflector, amber/yellow/orange marker light, and a white to amber (or any color in between). any forward facing bulb can be white.
A blinker does not have to be colored when not in use, meaning the lense can be clear.
most lights need to be seen from about 200 feet away.
1156 is single filament for blinker light
1157 is dual filament for park and brake lights

I forgot but what bulb type is the one in the bumper lenses? I know that the front pieces are 1156. There's a smaller bulb that goes on the side pieces, what type are they?

Just put mine in a few hours ago. Took NO time at all to ship, ordered them at 6:00 last night and they were here around 6:00 today. The install was ok, i had to cut one of the threaded peices where you secure the nut and the bolt, on each side. Other than that they fit well and didn't take long to do. They look pretty good, I'll take pics next time i wash/wax my baby.
Well, back to the turn signal bulbs. I painted 2 1156 amber bulbs with a light coat of spray chrome. Then I removed the supplied turnsignal bulbs and found out there not 1156 bulbs but they're close. The 2 locking tabs on the bulb are not 180 degrees apart, they're offset. I snipped one of the locking tabs off of the 2 bulbs I painted and installed them. It's a thing of beauty. No amber at all when they're off and plenty of light when they are. Hopefully I'll have pics tomorrow and also have looked up the correct, new turn signal bulb size.

The small bulbs are:
Sidemarker - Front 194
Sidemarker - Rear 194
ALSO: What brand and kind of paint did you use on the lights!? Was it high temp paint?
I thought only the rear one is 194. Like this photo:

I think they are both 194. Just take the bulb into the store with you! Problem solved. But yeah, it should be 194. I looked it up for myself b/c I got clear bumpers w\ my red/clear order. 95% sure. Was 100% before Dr. Max...
How about these? I may order the red led
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...784730171&rd=1
Did anybody cleaned the taillight area and applied some sort of water sealant grease?
I got mines pretty quick too, so I can't wait to put them on. Weather this week sux though.
Also, if I ordered the 1157 corner bulb in led white, will it have high and low wattag too? In the 95-96 the corner bulb gets brighter with the turn signal.

Just curious, what does LED do for you that the $3 regular bulbs don't? It's just a turn signal and it works very well as is. Unless you want your blinking turn signal to blind other drivers with it's brilliance

As for a sealer, yeah, that's a good idea. It seemed like mine already had lots of sticky-black sealer on there fron the previous tails. Hopefully enough of it stayed in place to water-proof the new tails... I don't think the outside weather-strip really does much. Fitment is not perfect enough to completely seal out water from there. So the inner seal becomes more important I think.

You guys have been waiting long enough.... too bad CE has a limited supply (thus far).
Those things are beasts once you chip them up.
