Sealer for Taillights/Trunk? RAIN GETS IN!

What can I use to seal my trunk up tight? After a hard rain I usually find that the mat in my trunk is soaked near the two rear corners. It's been like this for a long time. Since the trunk seal is in good shape (still soft and pliable and no cracks) it is most certainly the Taillight Seals that leak.

How can I seal this up? But without permanently "glueing" the taillights to the frame of the car? Let me know what worked to keep your trunk dry!

Autozone sells that black sticky stuff (forgot what it's called). It's perfect and not permanent.

Cool. Will they know what I'm talking about when I go there? Hopefully someone else will remember the name just in case.

is it pretty much like an OEM replacement? (i have removed my taillights a number of times to try and put them in the oven and such, and have been worried that the adhesive is giving out and the seal will eventually leak. )

I had the same problem. I just used a black or clear silicone caulking from Home Depot. I filled all of the gaps inside and out that ran from where the trunk begins to bend to where it drains. Just take a glass of water and pour it down the gutters behind your rear window and watch if any leaks occur and fill on site. Let the caulking sit for 15-20 minutes and try the water again. It sounds a little tedious but is 100% worth it when you have a $900 audio system in your trunk.

its called i believe the weather strip. they have weather strip for all the exterior parts that can be opened. there's a weather strip for the door, sunroof n for the trunk. they also have weather strips for the tail lights n headlights. i think that you can buy any weather strip, the only thing is that you're gonna have to cut it to make it fit the taillight. it shouldn't be that hard, just use good glue to glue the weather strip to the tailight.

Thanks guys for the tips! Lots of good options. I bet the black tar stuff works well, but it will be messy. I'm sure the silicone also works well, and is probably most difficult to remove later as the downside. The weather stripping is easy to find (it usually already has adhesive backing), but I'm sure it will be the least likely to be fully waterproof.

So yeah, pros and cons to each. But some good options. Thanks.
