Replaced Timing Chain Tensioner and STILL have a rattle!
I replaced my timing chain tensioner about two weeks ago, and it totally eliminated my rattle coming from my timing chain cover.. i was in heaven.. then this last week i made a trip to houston and stopped at a gas station and noticed that my timing chain rattle is BACK! and the worst part is its louder than before.. but the funny thing is i can hear it rattling in a different spot now.. the noise is coming from the from the front of the motor (closest to the front end).. by were my front two cam gears are.. i dont know what to do.. my car is depressing me lol.. i guess my question is are there two timing chain tensioners?? i mean thats the only thing i can think of that would be allowing it to make that noise again.. i need someone to shed some light on the situation.. because im stumped on this one.. thanks in advance for any help someone can give me..

If it really is the tensioner, let me ask you, are you using regualr oil or synthetic. If your using synthetic, get an oil change and use regular oil. Dollars to doughnuts the noise will go away. As was told to me by my mechanic who is a Nissan cert mechanic (and I followed his advice and it corrected the prob) synthetic oil doesnt allow the tensioner to build up enough pressure like regular oil does as synthetic is usually a bit thinner. I thought it was BS, but tried it anyway, and have never put a drop of synthetic in my car again. 3 years and counting.....

I use mobil 1 synthetic but I only get the rattle when it's a cold start, and for 1-2 seconds only. The 3.0L did the same (same timing chain) but it had regular oil instead of synthetic.
I put a little 15W50 Mobil 1 instead of 5W30 Mobil 1 like I normally use, and the rattle would go on for about 1 minute after starting, so I switched back to Mobil 1 5W30 and now it only does it for 1-2 seconds like it used to.

all i have to say is would u like to see what happens to a engine when a non qualified person enters the timing cover ? I must warn you it is scary.
Guys just take your time. But in my honest opinion this is one of the hardest jobs on the max... Taking the timing cover off. If this is leaking oil like my old engine was and rattling GET A DIFFERENT Engine. These engines are so cheap i got one for 350$ with 40k on them. This is just my word of advice. My car never ran better ; )

dang that is a scary pic.. actually i finally found out what it was.. i would have never guessed this would be it.. and i actually doubted the mechanic when he told me that it was the bearings in my alternator.. he replaced it and i got my car back.. and its never ran smoother.. no noise.. no nothing.. even fix my slight rough idle that i was worrying about.. i also replaced my fuel filter after about 2 yrs and 50k+ miles later.. totally forgot about that one.. but seriously my car runs like a whole new car now.. im in love again... haha.. preciate the help though guys..
