Help out a newb, the Max stalls

First of all, great site! My wife has a 98 Max, great vehicle, 140K on it. In the morning she'll start the car, slight warm up, put the car in either reverse or drive, and the car stalls, it's a slow sputtering stall. Had a friend, who is a certified mechanic at a local dealership look at it, tightened a couple hoses off the air intake, and thought it may have been just had a leak in the air intake bypassing the sensor. Nope. Stalled the next morning, only happens in the morning when car is cold. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Is the check engine light lit? If yes, read the stickies to retrieve any/all stored fault codes. Post back with those results.

Yeah, had an error, already went that route myself, then had him look at it with the odb. It was an evap code. He did a few things, then cleared the code, lite isn't back on, then car stalled again, have the guy very perplexed.
