Why does my new Y-pipe sound like a 1980s compact car with a hole in it's muffler??

Some Y-pipes come with three bung holes for oxygen sensors, but I think your Max only has two -- meaning, you've got an open bung hole. Plug it with an 18mm 1/2" bolt, a worn-out oxygen sensor, or a spark plug.
The other possibility is that the gaskets between the pipe fittings don't allow for a tight seal.

That sucks if the mechanic screwed up the gasket installation....

Ok, I've come up with a different comparison...
a rattlesnake's rattle. lol
That's the best sound I can equate it to. I looked under the car the other day. Everything is A-ok. Firm and secure.
Could it be the fact that the mechanic had to cut and weld a section of the y-pipe in order to make it fit? Maybe that's the culprit?
