Driver side axle...

Well got the tranny back in the car, shifter rods connected, shifts fine, only need to put the battery back in and put the tranny oil in. Problem is the driver side axle, it is a huge b*tch to shove in (as always), I put axle grease on it it only went in the first set of grooves. Any tips on how to get that in? Have someone turn the passenger side axle while I turn the driver side?

No need to hit it with a hammer. The clip on the end needs to be facing a certain way, the open part of the clip needs to be up with the closed end hanging down. You don't have it put in the hub when your doing this do you?

It's in the hub but I'll try it out tomorrow.

If it is in the hub then make sure the steering wheel is completely straight when trying to push it in.

Sometimes it helps to rotate the shaft a bit to line up the splines in the shaft with the grooves in the differential gear.

compare your old axle to your new one, I had the wrong axle once and the input shaft is different and will not fit, trying to force it will only damage something.

It's the same old axle, not a new one.

Maybe it's different because it's a VLSD? Mike, does the open part of the ring still have to be above on a VLSD?
