stick with the max, and only buy a new car when your financial standing is very stable.
i was in the same boat as you for months and i ended up keeping my max. Main reason is because, yes, having a new car is nice, but then, think about all the payments you will be making. sometimes it is not worth it, but if you have the money, why not?

The red flag to me is the 72 mo. loan. That's double what I feel is normal. Not only would one pay a higher interest rate for an unordinary finance term, but one would pay more interest period. I don't see what could be learned from making a mistake like that.

One should always be looking to shorten a repayment period if you ask me. When I start making some real money, I plan on doing a refi to 15 years on my mortgage. I wish I could have afforded the 15 yr. initially as many of my friends who are in the 32-34 yr. old range have done. I chose to buy a house at a younger age, so there was no way I could have swung anything but a 30 yr. But I feel the real estate market was on the rise so like many others, I took the plunge. But it gets awkward when the male and female both own homes before they get engaged, short of making one of them into an investment property, it nearly necessitates two sales.

Seriously guys, look at debt as a bad thing. Don't joke about as if there are no consequences to making bad financial decisions.

a man w/ great knowledge - waaaaay to many Americans live in debt. its a terrible way to live. if only people could exercise patience instead of jumping into something they cant afford things would be so much better for them.

hhm you guys should be financial advisors.. lol jk.

i know i told you to get the sti, but i didnt realize the max has 60k miles. its stilll pretty new.

if you get a house, there s something called a mortgage. which youll have UP TO A 30 YEAR LIMIT TO PAY OFF. now lets say he buys this car. he can build up his credit score to help him lower or get a lower rate on his interest rate on his mortgage. and it seems like he has a career ahead of him, so he has some money to fall back on..

you live once, if your smart you can pull of both. i sense some jealousy on this thread..... lol jk

btw you should always dream big, i would shoot myself if i were driving a max at an older age in my life..what would i have accomplished in my life? get the car, if you regret buying, get a nice boost controller, and then you wont regret it

well...

about his schooling...i wish i could do the same and make the same amount of money that he is making to be able to go to school and pay for an STi with its gas eating and everything else...also the high insurance...plus going out with friends and buying clothes...BUT if he wants to go get the STi anyways then he shouldn't have posted here...because he's gonna get it anyways.

okay now about WRX....don't get the STi...just get an WRX ImpreZa...my friend has one and eats STi's that are slightly modded...and he's spend about 3k on it...

go for a used WRX impreza...then fully bolt it...with that u WILL beat any stock to slightly modded Sti...especially on the drag strip.

whatever you decide i do hope u stay in the community.

heres something for you to look at bro.

http://www.naisaproductions.net/vid..._vs_wrxfull.mpg

thats a 2k2 6spd with a cattman,apexi sr intake, and a blehmco grounding kit.

the scoobi had:

-Cobb AP Stg2 (raised redline 7500)
-Nvidia Catback
-Perrin IC hoses w/custom intercooler water sprayer
-Uppipe&downpipe (dunno which brand)
-Lighten pulleys
-HKS SSQ BOV

if they had equal mods...im sure that 2k2 would've beaten him...but yeah...u can see the handicap.

Well if you ask me about reliability for MY needs, I would get the STI. The transmision is virtually bulletproof compared to the glass transmission in the regular WRX. But if you've done your research, (which by the cars you've owned I'd think that you would have) you would already know the real world differences b/n the WRX and the STI.

But hey think about it you're driving a brand new car with no problems compared to your usual F###'d up tranny Maxima. Of course you're going to want to indulge and get the faster, newer, funner car! Just stop and think about this....It's not worth it man, just fix the Max. It will be worth the money you spend on repairs.

Unless you're paying for schooling, I can't imagine a parent who would allow a son to go out and buy a $31,000 sports car. If I asked that, my parents would tell me "if I can pay for that car, I can pay for school too." Unless you are extremely smart, and pulled a full scholarship on academics alone (or sports too), there is no sense in buying this car. IF you are still looking into a WRX, look into a used Impreza as others have said. I can't imagine them costing more than 15k for a good conditioned one. And only $175 per month extra? That is a bad situation to get yourself into, considering you're already budgeting more money out for forseable modifications you might make.
I don't really know where I'm going with this since its late. I'm also kind of baffled that someone that's around my own age, and facing the same future as me (college education) can even consider committing to such a financial obligation. But 300hp would be sick.

Well since you introduced you finances... 175 left after bills aint shiat boss... That car bill is gonna get old type quick. Have your car lot buddy get a used one for you and see if he'll give it to you at cost. You should be 10k lighter right there.......

Oh about buying a house and owing 40k for a car...
There is a thing call DTI (Debt to Income) ratio... This basically measures what you make againts what you owe. New mechanic makes what 45k? When u graduate youll still owe about 15-20k. Plus credit cards and such your looking at 25k debt/ 45k income. Good luck finding a MTG company who'll give a 1st time buyer a thirty year mtg with that DTI ratio.

Oh and a wise man once told me... never finance something that depreciates.... That car depreciates 5k as soon as you take a right outta the lot boooyyyeeeeeeeee.............

About the warranty-
As soon as you make an engine/drivetrain mod in the STi dont you void the warranty?

As for me, Im waiting for the 3-year leases to run out on the STi and then might swoop one up. Ive wanted one for a long time now but gotta remember my priorities... Need cash for vegas!!

amen to that...why don't u go for a career that pays more??once you think about it...31k is alot for a car...my gosh imagine how much someone would pay you back after 10 years of being a daily driver...i say use the money you'd use for the car to move out instead.

The EVO's not an option because I don't want to own a Mitsubishi because that company is in a bad rut, and not to mention their engines are no where nearly as reliable as Scoobies...
woo hoo!! another drummer. keep the max then!!!.

Forget becoming a radar gun magnet and don't turbo a 4th generation...are you crazy?! You can do way more without blowing a gasket or something in a couple months after you turbo it.

Heh..... New to FI stuff huh? I'm not tryin to be mean, but thats a REAL NOOB comment man....
I've dealt with many turbo situations, and I have hook ups at a dynotune, and I'll have wideband... My car will be tuned perfectly.....
Boost doesnt=BHG if you know what youre doing and youre not an idiot by just slapping on a turbo and boosting it to heck...
Also, how would being turbo make me more of a radar magnet??? Can the cops see my turbo??? Do they even know what an intercooler is, or even look at it and think anything about it?? My car is already a radar magnet, but it doesnt matter..... Passport 8500 X50+ZR3 Shift.... thats all I have to say...

DRUMMERS ROCK
