Hi guys,
I have noted that most of you are using Mobil motor oil. Is it better than other brands like Castrol, Shell, etc. And Mobil 1 - is it much better to compare to other synthetic oils?

Thanks

NO,only my opinion.

I would probably have to disagree, best oil for the money maybe. There are oils like amsoil which I use and love it and it tastes great[don't ask] ,and then the other two oils that I feel are note worthy of being put into my car is Redline and Royal Purple. These oils are far more expensive but do not need to be changed as often as some of the cheaper oils.Just my thoughts.

I use any name brand synthetic. I just dont let it go longer than 4k or 5k between changes. I hear if you use Amsoil, you can go much longer. Also, use FULL SYNTHETIC, not that blended stuff.

Mobile One makes my max run Cooler.

The temperature gauge sits right below middle.
When I use just regular grade oil - valvoline, penzoil etc- it runs cool for about the first 500 miles then the temp gauge is direclty in the middle. Mobile One keeps it running cooler and seems to allow the engine to rev easier. It feels quicker - but this may be my imagination. But it makes me happy so I use Mobile One.

Just wondering

with the mobil one synthetic and the nissan filter--what is a good time frame for an oil change? every 7500 miles or every 5000 miles? I was thinking about just changing it every 6 months whichever--since I don't think I can put 7500 miles on my car--it is mostly city driving...but is it true that synthetic can last twice as long as the regular oil?

=)

Well, we all trust Shingles, and he has lab proof

that his car can go 7500 miles easily on Mobile 1 and a Nissan oil filter. He had his oil analyzed at 7500 miles and it showed no signs of needing to be replaced.

In addition, my own personal experience with Mobile 1 involves 10k oil intervals. And, yes, that includes the filter (which is a Mobile 1).

But, now I'm going to Amsoil on the next change and go that route, with 25k oil intervals.

E-mail or post a message to him if you want it straight from him.

I've heard a lot about Amsoil, but just
can't find them sold in any retailed chain
stores. Other than that, I'm happy with Mobil 1
and Pure One filter at every 5k-7k miles.

Mobil 1 is great stuff. I personally would use any FULL synthetic oil. I prefer using either stuff like Mobil 1, Amsoil, or even Redline. They all cost a good amount but Mobil 1 is the cheapest of the 3. Your car runs cooler and smoother.

Yes 7500miles is no big deal on Nissan OEM filter and Mobile 1 synthetics.

Here's the lab report:
http://users.ev1.net/~shinglin/cars/oil/oilrpt.html

The results show that I could have probably fairly easily pushed the thing to 8000. I think this is what I am going to go for this time around.

I've got a buddy who's an officer

And he says they run regular 10W-30 in the cruisers for 7,000 minimum between changes.
They use crap oil too. - But their engines are in great condition and each cruiser has an average of 150K+.
They've even cracked a couple open and they are cleeeeean.
Todays oil's are so much more advanced than they were just 10 years ago. not to mention the Engines in today's cars?
The Maxima has one of the best, most refined powerplants ever produced (mass scale or not) - Treat her like a lady.

Even though you won't get viscosity break down in synthetic oil like you do in natural oil, oil still does get dirty. I change my Mobil 1 around every 4 k miles but I've went up to 6 k once. Just my 2 cents ~C

That's why you have an oil filter. Read the lab results, and save your self some money.
