I got the code for a bad o2 sensor. I dont remember which one it was but im sure it was one of the 2 that are closer to the front not the one on the cat! what are some of the negative effects of a bad sensor.. Where can i get it for cheap and how hard is it to install??

Side effects: poorer performance and gas mileage.

Installation instructions are in the stickies - basically unplug/unscrew old, plug and screw in new.

Rent tools (o2 socket) from autozone or use an open ended wrench.

Agreed, Oxygensensors.com has the best pricing and quick shipping. I don't think you need to buy an O2 socket, an open end wrench did it for me. Good luck

if you have a 96 chances are your y pipe is rusted. So youll probally have to spray the 02 sensors with pb blaster or something like that and let it sit. Also use some anti seize around the 02 sensor threads if you want, thats optional just to prevent it from getting rusted in their. Mine werent that bad on my 95.

Not end of thread considering I get the same mileage out of my 96 with TWO bad O2 sensors, as I do out of my 95 with both working O2 sensors. The "poorer performance" claim is a fallacy as well.

So the negative effect is that you have a check engine light glaring at you basically.

I disagree. Just because you get the same mileage, it doesn't mean that replacing the O2 sensors won't necessarily improve the mileage of the car with failed O2 sensors. You could have other issues with the 95 that are affecting the mileage, since there are so many factors that come into play.

^^^^^ Same issue with same results. My 99 gets pretty much the same gas mileage with 2 codes for o2 sensors. Codes get reset, won't come up for a while, then returns. No change in gas mileage.

I got a universal front o2 sensor for $52 bucks from the local parts store same day and wasted the money on the tool that I didn't need and couldn't even use. Just use the open ended wrench that everybody else talks about. And don't forget the antiseize.

As for the price, I called 3 places and it varied from 52 to 77 bucks.

However, I may have just committed flamicide by using a universal o2 sensor and not OEM. Have mercy.

So since there are so many factors that come in to play, you then can't say with any modicum of certainty that it is a bad o2 sensor causing the bad gas mileage as you claim. Being as I have hard data, both comparing two different vehicles, and the SAME vehicle before and after the parameter change in question (when it had good o2 sensors and no codes, vs when it had bad o2 sensors), I'm inclined to believe the data which I have. Data which incidentally agrees with the data that others have posted on the subject. The 95 has no codes and no problems, and is running in tip-top condition.
