what causes engine knocking besides bad gas?
las nite i was driving and i had the ac on and i floored the pedal and i periodically heard my engine ping...

i always religiously fill up my tank with chevron 93 octane gas.
other than bad gas...what causes engine pinging??

not necessarly somthing u need to worry about.

One possibility would be carbon deposits. a good fuel cleaner will help possibly, like techron or regane or fuel power

Make sure your knock sensor is in working order, and if you were doing it going up a hill and floored it with the a/c on it is possible. No one said the engine would never knock, but when it does the knock sensor is supposed to catch it and adjust the timing if needed.

This might seem strange but, I've never heard a engine knock before. I don't even know what to listen for. So most likely if it does happen on my car, I won't even notice it. I guess this is a good thing. It means all my cars have been healthy in the engine department.
