Resetting ECU question

I have a 99, and I remember trying to reset the ECU before, and it didn't work. If I use an OBD II scanner, and "reset codes", will this be the same thing as resetting the ECU manually? I need to do this for my knock sensor replacement.

Thanks,
Dan

Yea it's the same thing. All you're doing is clearing the codes that were stored in the ECU. It's not really resetting anything. I use a ODBII scanner myself. So much easier than farking with a tiny screw and counting flashes.
