Whats the point of paying $160 for a JWT or Stillen intake when you can buy a Ractive Tornado filter for $30 and do it that way?

When you pursue this method, do you leave in the stock air filter or do you replace it with a K&N filter? My only question is, will cutting holes in the stock airbox cause you to suck in more dirt than a standard CAI or less dirt. I would think it wouldn't be as much of a dirt sucker as if a CAI was installed.

most people replace the filter with a k&n but a completelly exposed filter (cai,hai) will always be dirtier then an intake with the box even if it is hacked. but as long as you clean your filter or replace when dirty, the dirt shouldnt be much of a problem.

also to answer the threads question- short ram hybrid is what i have and it scares the crap out of my friends when i pop the hood and rev it. i always get compliments and hear things like - "that thing is a 6 cylinder?! and damn that sounds like a race car" its that loud. however using anything besides a stock intake setup has shown a small loss in power, but if your looking to really hear your vq scream an intake will do it.

You can just stick a cone filter on the end of your stock MAF sensor, without losing low end power and still get a nice sound when you go WOT. I did that today. I recently went back to the stock intake because I was sick of the power loss/lag and the obnoxious noise I constantly got from the hybrid intake. I experienced a bit of high end loss with the stock box, so I decided to try out the cone filter without the mid pipe. I left the bottom part of the stock box where it is, and still have the snorkel attached to it. My Apexi filter sits perfectly in the box, and when I drive, I get that extra source of cold air coming from the snorkel. This setup is as responsive as the stock setup, without the high end loss. It's also quiet during normal driving, but gives off a nice sound when you floor it. Best of both worlds I think.

Sound = ...

Intakes are for

But if you want a loud intake, any cone will do, but the straight aftermarket mid-pipe is what makes them loud and annoying.

I had the JWT cone on my car, and personally I did not like it at all. For sounds, yes its good nice and loud at WOT, but for power... if u ask me it only makes u slower due to sucking in nothing but hot air. I then ordered a CAI kit from e bay for like 30 bucks, and then threw away the pos filter they sent me. I then modded the JWT cone to fit over the pipe in my fender. So now I still have the nice JWT cone but instead of sucking in hot air its now getting nice cool air from fender.
