Magnaflow: Recommended or Not?

I've been hearing some great things from people about the magnaflow street series mufflers; great price and quality. I hear they have a nice sound below 2.5k and above 2.5k it is normal, which is what im am aiming for. Does it really sound nice (but not overpowering) under load? Doesn't maxima use 2.5" inlet rather than magnaflow's 2.25" inlet? Would you recommened it as a cheaper, but still decent, alternative to the Stillen?

no, you get one made for 2". so outer diameter of a muffler inlet should be 2.25". if you want cheap performance, cherry bomb turbo II muffler. its 2" becuase air condenses when it cools, doesnt needc to be as wide.

edit: cherry bomb turbo II muffler- 18.99 need to buy own tip, another ten bucks. self install able

I'm not sure about Magnaflow, but I just bought a Borla muffler for $69 on ebay. They sound pretty nice judging by sound clips I've heard, but I won't get mine installed until next week.

Ic, so inlet for the exhaust should be 2" with the rest of the exhaust system OEM? Borla...always the best, i'll look into the ebay ones.

For the Borla, which does not have it's own tip, I want to buy one for it. What should the inlet be on the tip? 2" or larger?

The Borla is on Wicked Nicky's on ebay...Pro XS #40358. The tip is 2.5". Its on there too for $59 (#20155) but apparently you've got to have another pipe welded between the muffler/tip. My tip should be in next week so I'm not exactly sure what needs to be done, but its not an exact fit.

hmm, i'm looking at getting a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler. heard it sounds pretty low, almost greddy-like (not quite) but anyway, i have OEM b-pipe and people told me to go with 2.5" inlet and outlet. part number 17748, i believe. about $50. does this sound off or what? what is the OEM muffler inlet/outlet? also, where do you go to buy a tip? I am getting the muffler installed at a muffler shop. do they have tips normally, or is it better to get them online somewhere.

sorry to ***** your thread, but I tried not to go too OT.

If you want a Magnaflow that's reasonably quiet make sure you get the one with double wall, if you want loud get the single wall.

2.5" inlet...are you sure? Cause I'm gonna order this thing pretty soon. And I've noticed that most Magnaflow's are 2.25"

stock is 2.25. get a 2.5 inlet if ur gonna upgrade the b-pipe to a 2.5.
and if u have an aftermarket y-pipe, it'll sound pretty loud

I was reading on one sight that for a magnaflow if you don't have a resonator then it'll sound civic farty. Will i need this because i'm just installing this to my OEM exhaust system? Also, how long should the tip on the muffler be so that it doesn't stick out too far from the car and look ? (The tip is so big, 3", why buy a tip?)

i think that if you have a stock b-pipe, it has a suitable resonator. correct me if i'm wrong, but you shouldn't need anything else.

if u take it to an exhaust shop, they can prob just cut the connecter on the stock muffler and weld it to a pipe that goes from 2.5 to a 2.25.

yeah, i think i have heard of adapters where the pipe is angled in all directions in order to increase diameter in a short distance, as in a few inches. any reasonable shop should be able to do this/have this part. I'm planning on doing that with a 2.5" inlet Dynomax b/c b-pipe will be down the road shortly, perhaps early next spring. that way, the muffler is the correct diameter for a 2.5" b-pipe later.

can anyone confirm that the these adapters actualy exist?

Why not just have a small piece of 2.5" piping welded between the b-pipe and muffler but with a flange welded on one end so the 2.5" pipe can be bolted to the 2.25" b-pipe? As long as you have the same size flange on the end it'll work just fine and look much cleaner as well. Then the other end of the pipe can just be welded to the muffler. Northern Maxima PMed me about this and that's the suggestion I gave him. I'm the one who originally put up the Borla clips as well

ok, so same size flange, but one with 2.25" hole and the other with 2.5" hole? that would actually be a good idea, because then when I get a custom b-pipe, my muffler will unbolt and bolt right back on.

Just want to make sure that the stock B-pipe's resonator is good enough so that the magnaflow doesnt sound terrible.

I got Magnaflow the largest round one, 4 inches wide tip. I love it and highly recomend it, $100 in ebay, sounds deep and not loud or ricey at all. Looks really nice. On my wifes Accord 92 got the one with 2 tips and was very loud so had to take it out.
