TPS closed

My ses light went on so i hooked it up to a scanner and got the following codes. p0510, Throttle Position sensor closed. and 2x of p0325, Knock sensor. Before i got these codes my car would idle sometimes at 1k rmps, and other time it would idle normally, in park my car sometimes idles as high as 1500 to 2000rpm, then after a bit it just goes back down and normal again. I looked in the stickies and found no real explanation on how to fix the closed TPS. Where is it and how can i fix it, and how much would this cost... I am getting a new KS today so I would also want to buy whatever else i need to fix this p0510 code. Thanks for any help from anyony in advance.
Matt

You probably need to replace the TPS. Its not a cheap sensor - so start shopping the 4th gen classifieds.. I know there were a few available there.

getting it from a dealership will run you more than $150 (low estimate since jrnissanparts.com, which sold cheaper than retail parts but doesn't anymore was selling them for $162...)

you can try adjusting the sensor first before replacing it you will need a feeler gauge and a ohm meter for this procedure the sensor in combined with throttle positon sensor and a closed throttle swith thats why there are 2 wire harnesses i would gladly send you the procedures yes they are expensive nissan dealer part a must dont look for a used one

I too would like to know where the TPS is. I need to disconnect it before I can try readjusting my idle since it's currently quite high and a little dippy at times

The process for adjusting has changed based on NTB99-053b, the new process involves using the closed throttle swith to adjust instead of using the 500~4000ohm rule, and the price I got for the OEM version is only 20 dollars more so I just picked that up. Never used the autozone so i can't really comment on that one, but the TPS, from what I discover and experienced, is very important, almost got hit by a semi due to hesitation, so I got OEM.

i would absolutely recommed replacing the Knock Sensor just for the simple fact that when it goes, it sends numerous other "false" signals to the ecu such as crankshaft position sensor errors, MAF, and TPS

so thats what a knock sensor does. i always thought the ecm uses it to advance the timing until the knock sensor produces the voltage to trigger the ecm to retard the timing a tad, and if it senses detonation, it would retard the timing. but now with the new information you just provided, anytime i get a cps or maf, or TPS failure i'll just replace the KS.

thanks MaximaInCT203! Your the BEST
