VQ engine question.

The VQ35 didn't come in Maximas until the 2002 model year, so unless somebody did a swap, you have a VQ30DE.
You can verify this yourself by looking for "VQ30" stamped on the engine block near the rear of the right bank cylinder head, in the vicinity of the fuel pressure regulator.

Unless your car has had some radical modifications, you have a VQ30DE. Your engine and transmission type should be stamped on a plate riveted to the firewall. The plastic shroud over the valve cover should also say "V6 3000" which means it is a 3,000 cc (3.0L) motor - this is what the "30" in VQ30DE stands for.
Take a look at these reference pages on Fresh Alloy to learn more about wat Nissan engine designations mean.

maxklinger thats not how you find the displacement of an engine in cc. it is a more specific measurement than cubic inches, in which we have 188 cu. in.
Engine GXE SE GLE
Engine Type VQ30DE DOHC V6
Displacement 3.0 liters (2960cc)
Horsepower (SAE net) 190 hp @ 5600 rpm
Torque (SAE net) 205 ft-lbs @ 4000 rpm
Induction System Sequential multi-point fuel injection with variable induction
Compression ratio 10:1
Valvetrain 4 valves/cylinder

But, since they're Maximas, they typically go more for metric measurments, this has also gone into effect with the Amercian car makers as well... 4.6, 5.7, 6.0L etc ...

95-99, VQ30 DEYou would definalty know if you had the 3.5
It would be due to a swap, the seller would have informed you and also charged you for it as well.

Please don't question him. He's been an import mechanic for over 10 years.
