Muffler and B-Pipe: Stock CFM? Mercedes? 5th Gen?

Hello All,

I am in the market of a new muffler.

I had some noise near the muffler section whenever I hit a hard bump and I looked underneath and found that the B-pipe resonater material is peeling off and the muffler is 60% rusted.

So, I guess it's either stay with a stock 4th gen muffler/B-pipe, or take the adventurous route to those C-class AMG mufflers (I really like the way they look) or 5th gen muffler.

Anybody has opinion on this? What's the stock 4th gen muffler CFM rating? I was told that droning is caused by using a muffler that does not have enough CFM compared to its stock.

I am looking for a quiet exhaust, although I don't mind the tone when the car is on power, like those with Lexus SC430/Bimmers.

I have a budget Y & B pipe with renonator and a 2k1 muffler. Silent at idle & on the highway but has a throaty sound when you stomp on it ( small V8).

Thanks maxger. Seems to me that's the combo I want to have. It's just that the tip of the muffler from 5th gen is a rectangular...whereas the cutout on the 4th gen stock bumper is round. Thus the Mercedes muffler.

The tip I have now is the rectangular one but if you get a later style stockmuffler 2002-2003 they come with duel tips i believe. I was or still am going to get a another stock 4th gen muffler tip and install them on a 5 th gen muffler. Tried the one that I took off my old muffler and it fits on one of the 2k1 exhaust pipes. Just need another to see if 2 can fit side by side. Anyone ever do this?

My setup is custommaxima y, cattman b, and stock muffler and its very quiet until you get on it. Best advice would be get a new stock muffler or get the 5th gen to keep it quiet
