Hi everyone,
Just remembered a small mod that might be helpful for some of the 4th gen owners that lives in the Northeast region. If you don't have the winter package on your car then you can buy the sensor (forgot the part number) for the low washer fluid and install it yourself. I believe this option is for all the 4th gen Maximas. The warning light (built-in) will light up in your dash when the washer fluid gets low in the reservoir.
The sensor is like $15.00 at the Nissan dealer and the wiring is already there next to the washer fluid tank underneath the fender. You will have to loosen the plastic wheel well panel to access the washer fluid reservoir area. You will need to take out the reservoir to drill or cut the hole in order to install the sensor. But others had luck in just drilling the hole from underneath while the car was on the lift. Just need to cut a small hole (measure with sensor) on the bottom of the tank and put in the sensor. Plug it into the factory wiring and the light will light up on yor dash when the fluid gets low.
Thought this might be useful for some owners before the winter time hit us up here. Do it now or this weekend and have a peace of mind for the winter time. Don't get stuck driving without washer fluid with all that salt on the road during winter time. Hope this will help everyone out!!

Thanks!

Maybe one of the other members will make a web page with all the instruction and pics over the weekend. I know there are plenty of talented people on this BBS. But go get one for yourself since you live up here in MA. It's getting cold already... brr brrr brrr
BTW all of you are very WELCOME!! Just trying to help everyone out.

Q: Is there an easy way to figure out whether or not you already have this option installed in your car? Short of draining the windshield wiper fluid?
I know I have the power and convenience groups, I don't know about the "winter" group.

Hi Ken,
Do you mean that if I do not have the winter option, then I do not have the sensor, and thus when my washer fluid goes low my idiot light will NOT light?
Wow - this would be an example of Nissan being stupid. It's bad enough that you can't even see the damn fluid reservoir as it is, but to not have the light is real dumb.
Thanks for this information - I am pretty sure I don't have any special winter package but I will check my sticker (which is on my web site).
As for someone doing a writeup on it, if I find the sensor today I will do a writeup with pictures for my site. I'll post to the BBS if I have any luck.

If you have the outside heated mirrors...
then you have the winter package. But I know most of the Maxima did not come with the winter package. Hey one of our member might do a DIY website for everyone to learn how to do it. But get the sensor installed and you will ask yourself how did I drive without it all these times.

Geez, I already have it!!!
I looked at my sticker and under the "Deluxe Seating Package" it says "Low Windshied Wiper Fluid Light". Funny thing is, in 2 years I've never seen it illuminate.
Why this is under the Deluxe Seating Package is a mystery to me.
You can look at my sticker on my web site http://grprete.jnet.net

I guess we will have to wait for somebody else to do the DIY page...
Can somebody else do a DIY page on the low washer fluid sensor install for the other members?

Re: Geez, I already have it!!!
If you have someone else change your oil, then that's probably why the light has never came on. When you get your oil changed by whoever they normally change oil, add air to tires if needed, and add wiper fluid if needed.

considering that I live in MI and at times we get hit w/ snow pretty bad, this would be very useful to have in the winter months
another ? - instead of drilling a hole in your reservoir and placing the sensor where the hole is, isn't there another reservoir w/ the sensor already inside it? and where would I find that?

I still can't believe this light was an option on our 4th gens, heck, even GM has this light standard on all thier cars .. seems like Nissan is doing some cost-cutting more then ever lately

So you know if your washer fluid is low. If you've never driven in a cold part of the country in the winter you may not know this, but the roads get absolutely covered in salt to keep them from icing up. This salt then gets thrown up by cars in front of you and gets all over the windshield. If you weren't able to wash it off you eventually wouldn't be able to see through the windshield.
