Vehicle Speed Sensor Removal
How to: Vehicle Speed Sensor Removal - Currently Attempting, Need Help
I received an Error Code coming from this sensor, i've finally decided to attack this problem. I located the sensor, believe it or not, i'm skinny and long enough to reach it without removing anything. So i've removed the bolt, the electric connection and now i'm struggling to remove the actual sensor. Would someone be so kind as to explain how to remove it, is there something i'm doing wrong. The manual doesn't say much other than;
Disconnect electric connector
Remove hold down bolt and clamp
Remove Sensor.
I think i'm having a hard time removing the clamp, how do I disengage this clamp and where is it?

It's out. It was generating everything except .5 Volts leading me to believe it's Bad. Even 1.x~ was coming out. I hope i was using my dad's meter Correctly, it was at AC 2Volt Setting, and I was connecting the 2 leads from it, to the leads which the electric connector was on Sensor.

here is an old pic I have:

if you are standing on the drivers side fender looking straight down, its on the top of the transmission twords the back, and its held in by just that one bolt, unscrew it and pull straight up, but be ready to catch some gear oil that will spill out.

Sorry for draggin this thread out so far. I'm not sure if i used my meter correctly
See Pic:

To freshen your memory, the Manual says .5 Volts AC, so referring to the meter, first button is pressed and then the exact same configuration as shown in the pic, correct? I Tried it both ways, never pressed the Ohms - Last button (my pops warned me against doing so), but I tried just about every other combination and never received a steady .5, it went from .001 - .9## sometimes a 1.###. So if that's the case, then the sensor needs to be replaced?

im not sure how to use the volt meter to test it, but did you say that you started your car while it was out? i dont think thats a good idea since you would basically be running your car with a hole in the transmission.
I agree with Vlasic. Don't run the car without the speed sensor installed. That section of the tranny probably isn't pressurized, but you'll have transmission fluid sloshing out, all over your steering rack, firewall, and Y-pipe. Fire hazard, etc.
Re-install the speed sensor, get a new one ($18.59 at Rockauto.com) and try that. I don't advocate "shotgun troubleshooting" (replacing of a part in hope that fixes the problem) but it's cheap enough in this case. From what you've said about voltages, and a few suspect readings, the speed sensor probably IS the problem, but if not at least you'll have a spare.
The speed sensor on my 90 SE Auto is ~$80 so at $18.59 consider yourself lucky!
