Car won't start!

Hi there I just went to get some food, and went to tried to start the car, but it won't . It cranks but won't kick over. Now it wont even crank, but the battery is at 12.3 volts. Any1 know what the problem could be? Starter maybe?

I have same exact problem. It was barley cranking but now its getting nothing. I bought a starter off of ebay last month and will try put in the morning. I checked the codes and got 01 02 (MAF sensor) could that stop it from starting?

edit: It turns it was the starter

97PearlWhiteSe try hitting the starter with something to see if it cranks as KiLIAkLoWn suggested. You can also take it out and go get it checked at Autozone or Kragens.

Yes it will. Have you done any work around the MAF or the wiring around it? Have you re-oiled a filter?

Do yourself a favor and replace the starter as soon as you can.

since the car does crank, check for spark, get a spark tester. then if you have spark, check for fuel with either a noid light or fuel pressure gauge

Well I'm having my car towed today to my mechanic. It still won't crank...It makes some sort of clicking noise now. I tried hitting it with a hammer...still now luck. How much do you guys think it will cost to get a new starter?

That sounds like either an alternator problem or a battery problem...but it could possibly be the starter too...because you say that the car won't even crank. Are your interior/clock lights going dim? Do your HID's turn on/off, or flicker? I'm currently getting my alternator replaced per the 97-98 TSB alternator recall. I'm running an optima blue top battery that is keeping my car alive for my trips to classes, I can't even run my stereo, and can barely turn my a/c on...I also have a trickle charger, so I throw the battery on that every night...

For a STARTER? That's like 2 bolts, a few wires, and you're done. No offense, but you just took it in the a$$ man from the shop that you took your max to.

^^^^^^ It takes at most a half an hour to change the starter. They really went overboard on that labor charge.

I paid around $160 dollars for it at Autozone, came with a lifetime warranty. Took it home, put it in, no more problems . Not hard to put in at all.
