looks as if it was bench tested but never installed. there are no scrapes anywhere on the body indicating it was installed in a car. or are there?

It was sold as brand new..

Its weird theres paint off on the side as well, no nissan part number like my old one... there are no bolt marks around the holes to suggest abolt had been there... Is it normal to bench test a brand newstarter before it goes out?

I'm entirely sure if it is my starter, so if this one is in anyway dodgy I want to swap it

be truthful with you if it is a true brand new starter you would of payed alot for it. Now I don't know what you payed but most places even dealers will sell rebuilt starters. Also all starters are tested to make sure they can produce the power to turn a motor over. I would do your own bench test if your not sure if it works. If you do a bench test on it have someone else hold it while you put power to it. they tend to fly when not held down.

Starters in ... had a scary moment

Got the starter in okay ... fired her up *SPLUTTER* *SPLUTTER* idle jumping failing

Unplugged the MAF and it held a steady idle.. gas it and it would die

Fired up the NissanConsult and it told me MAF voltage was perfect.

Checked all the hoses to make sure no air leaks .. just about to give up after removing starter and checking it was disengaging ... When I notice the huge hole in the piping where I had forgot to put the elbow back on next to the scoop intake. Plug that hole up again with elbow and she fires right up. Idles properly .. drives a dream

Phew! Leasons learned and dollars saved. All and All a good day

Right, for the so-called "new" you'd pay way more than it's worth. My guess would be north of $500. Remanuf are of varying qualities, usually warranted like crazy but you eat the labor when they fail.
