Driver side axle problem *HELP/Pictures*

Alright I have about had it with this driver side axle.

First about a month ago I purchased 2 new axles, driver and passenger side from autozone. AZ gave me a LSD axle instead of a non-LSD axle. I futz around with the LSD for about 3 weeks, I needed my car so I drove with the LSD axle on

Then finally after about 4 weeks I decide to go to AZ and see if they gave me the wrong axle. Sure enough they do. So now I put this axle in. It slides all the way in, BUT it is loose. I have hammered on this thing and it banged in there. If I pull on it I can not just pull it out with my hands I have to use a screwdriver, but it is not suppose to move a 1/4 of an inch is it?

I have a TERRIBLE and I mean terrible vibration under acceleration. 1st gear is not real noticeable, but is there. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, it is a violent vibration especially in 2nd, 5th gear while cruising you can feel it, but it is nothing unbearable unless i put my foot into the gas a little bit.

I can only come up with 4 possibilities why its doing this.
If it's not suppose to move like the pictures show then:

1. Splines on the axle are messed up
2. Splines in the tranny are messed up
3. Cheap *** axles and should have purchased from Raxle from the beginning
4. Possibly my passenger side axle isn't in correctly, but I am positive that it is.

Also when I push my clutch in you can hear a sort of clank sound. Looks like I am just going to take it to the shop.

Sorry they aren't the best pictures, but you should make out the small movement the axle makes.

Thats a pretty big movement, something isn't right.
Thats definately where your vibrations are coming from.

EDIT: But make sure you completely check both sides, R&I them!

Any ideas on how to fix this problem? I'm thinking its the splines. I checked the passenger side it doesn't move a single bit.

Its a little confusing. You're saying you have a non-LSD transmission but you were running LSD axles and the car ran fine.

Then you took the LSD axles out and put in non-LSD axles. The new axles didn't go in very smoothly and now your car has a vibration. Is this correct?

First of all you can run LSD axles on a non LSD transmission. I did this for 3 years. You should have just left it.

When you removed the axles did you make sure the circlips came out with it? You might have something lodged inside the transmission or damaged the transmission by banging the axle in there.

Why does everyone think raxles is some magic axle place that will sell them the best axles on earth? They might sell decent axles for a premium price but so does a lot of stores. And a local store is where you should get your axles from in case you ever have a problem.

Autozone gave me a LSD axle. I installed that one, but it didn't go in all the way and also caused a vibration. I went to autozone and checked if they gave me a LSD axle because at the time I wasn't sure why the axles was not going in all the way. When I picked up the non-LSD axle and installed it, it slid in all the way, as the pictures show, but it has some play in it.

I dont know. I ran a LSD axle and it worked fine. It eventually failed (outer boot ripped) and I found out I dont have LSD so I just bought a regular axle.

Maybe they gave me regular when they said it was LSD. I dont know. I thought I had LSD until i checked for sure.

I dont know how you drove with an axle not seated all the way. That would cause all the fluid to leak out.

There should be a clip on the end of the axle that helps it seat inside the transmisison. Was this clip missing on your axle?

The clip is there and all. My fluid was leaking, but I replaced the oil seal and it is no longer leaking.

I'm guessing that it is "seated" but something still isn't right and I can't figure out what. Does this clip snap into a certain spot into the tranny? Because if it does I can not find this "special spot" what-so-ever.

I did notice today while the vibration is still bad, it doesn't seem to be as bad at certain speeds.

I'm picking vibration is bad, so driving your car with it is probably going to fork something up which is more expensive that the problem you are currently having.

It should snap into place. Usually, I cannot the get the driver's axle in without that clip being center around the spline. I use grease to hold it center and just bang it in there.

When you say hold it center. Do you mean have it on the top part of spline? And have the part of the clip where it does not connect on the bottom?

As you can see from the pictures I have the axle all the way in, is this only extra step is to just use some grease to hold this damn clip straight so it snaps in?

If so I am going to curse all to hell when I get this thing to sit straight and snap in.

The part of the clip that does not connect (open part) does not matter where it goes. You just have to have the clip sit even around the spline because without the grease and everything, it just hangs on the spline.

Carquest rebuilt my last one and it failed after 2yrs. (Only a 1yr warr). Raxles may be twice the price, but if their premium components prevent downtime I'll use em.
