Clutch... not working...Maxima sad...

Clutch... not working...Maxima sad...

Just now as I pulled into my apartment complex the clutch seems to have gone out... I started off through the gate and noticed that the clutch didn't let out but about half way... and with cutch in it was very hard to shift... and even when I shifted to neutral from reverse it didn't go out of gear... About all I can think to do right now is get on my *** tomorrow when it's light and look up into the pedal and see if anything is wrong... Other than that I don't know much about how the clutch works, other than I need it to drive...
and now is not the time to learn to drive without the clutch... not in houston at least...
could it be something simple or am i screwed and need to drop the tranny and pull the clutch off...?
Also a little worried that it didn't come out of reverse when I shifted to neutral.... It seems like even if the clucth were'nt dissengaging that it would still come out of gear...
bad... bad...
Help would be very much appreciated since I kinda need to get to school tomorrow...

Ok... so I panicked last night... I came to the conclusion before going to bed that it had to be something in the linkage...
however this morning I got in and the clutch was back to normal...
everything worked normally...
i am confuzled...
I'm still worried... I don't wanna lose the clutch again while going down the road.

where is the slave cylinder and what about the master clutch cylinder?
can I get to it easily?

slave cylinder resivor....its on the fire wall on the driver side (in the corner). It needs to be full of brake fluid. I bet if you check that you will see you are low. If it is low then you will need to fill it back up and bleed your clutch to get around for the time being. If it is low then try to find you leak. I usually is either the slave cylinder is self or it will be the hose leading to the slave cylinder.

the slave cylinder in actually on the transmission itself a lot of people have been reporting problems that the hose that leads to the slave cylinder leaks make sure your master cylinder (on the firewall is full) use dot 3 brake fluid, and read the how to on bleeding the clutch. replace the hose if it is faulty --about $40 at the dealer.

the clutch reservoir (on the firewall) is full and has been full since i've owned the car. although the fluid is black.

sounds like your clutch is on its way out how many miles are on your clutch?

Why would the clutch going out cause the pedal to go out? wouldn't the clutch going out just cause slippage and bad engagement? Not that I disagree, I just don't see the connection... I kinda expect the clutch to go out since, unfortunately as I have owned the car I find more and more things that tell the person who owned it before me was a total retard and treated it badly... but i think there has to be some other explanation especially since it seems to have fixed itself (temporarilly at least) over night.

could be a bad pressure plate, if one of the fingers got caught that might explain why "it fixed itself" when my clutch went, all kind of wierd things happened

anyone have any good ideas to diagnose this problem? i don't want to drop the tranny just to find out it was something simple.

since it looks like im going to have to replace the clutch, the general consensus is that the 5th gen clutch is pretty good. which year of the 5th gen would i use the clutch from and which parts would i need to buy extra (do i use the 4th gen throwout bearing or the 5th gen etc...). also where would you buy it from? i found most of it on nissanparts.org and it comes out to be about $150 cheaper than an ACT stage one clutch kit. would it be worth it to spend the extra money and get the ACT clutch or not?

i would say if your not looking to go with huge gains from nitrous turbo or supercharger, i would take my chance on the 5th gen.

get 5th gen clutch, pressure plate, and tob. there's really no reason for you to go with act, 5th gen clutch feels really good.

thanks , no mods like super/turbo/nos, just ypipe hacked airbox and maybe exhaust, just those three things is all id need?
