Installing OEM wood dash kit

I just received my oem wood kit, and it was without instructions. If anyone can give me a few pointers if they have any past experience it would be great, as I am dying to get this kit on.

Is it an OEM kit that screws on or an aftermarket kit that glues/tapes on?

Then there isn't much to it - you just stick it on.. just clean out the old trim really well to remove all grime/dirt - so you get a good bond between the trim and the new kit's adhesive.

Prep is where all the important work is. The cleaner you can get it, the better. Get rid of any armor all or anything like that that may have been applied to your dash. After that, just take your time, line everything up, stick it on really well (did you get an adhesive promoter?) and enjoy!

Where can I get wood trim for just my Digital Climate Control. I got my car from a granny and I don't know if she ripped it off or 95 GLEs didn't come with it. I know i30 does.

Maximas never had wood-trim around the climate control or clock. On the center console just the audio headunit, pocket/tray and shifter trim had the wood-grain trim.

There is a thread somewhere about someone who bought an I30T as a beater and it had a new VLSD tranny, but a blown engine. One of the pics shows the Digital Climate Control with Wood Grain. From what you guys said I guess it isn't OEM.

The I30 did come with woodgrain climate control, Maxima's did not... so I'm not sure what you mean.

I haven't done a dash kit, but based on common sense, be sure to prep the surface REALLY well to remove dirt and oil. Armorall and similar products soak into the surface and are retained for a long time - that's bad for your purposes.

If you've armoralled your car recently, you may want to use some rubbing alcohol or another strong solvent to clean the surface off. I would still wait a few days after that and use the alcohol again, too. Slippery armorall (or equivalent) has can't be good for adhesion...

I just need to find someone to pull that wood grain from. Probably from classifieds sections. The car looks ... unfinished without it.

I are you sure? I could have swore I test drove a 97GXE 5spd with woodgrain around the climate control.

It was either a swapped unit from an I-30 or an aftermarket trim piece.

I have never seen that before - i.e. a Nissan original kit that is "stuck" over the existing trim. Just to clarify, GLEs did not come with this type of trim. The GLE wood trim actually replaced the plastic trim pieces entirely.

But it looks good... install it carefully and I'm sure it will look good and hold up well.

Yo 98MaXeDouT, how did this go???? I have the same Maxima 98 SE with the woodgrain. It covers clock and thermostat along with a bunch of other stuff. Mine is starting to crack all over the place and I need to replace a few pieces.

If anyone with a Maxima wants the OEM Molded Wood Grain Dash Kit, let me know. I have the complete set including the window controll switches for all four doors, the pocket that is under the radio, the ash tray, and the digital climate control unit. let me know if you are interested.

I forget which year brochure it is, I want to say '98 or '99, but they show a picture of a GLE with a (fake) woodgrain trim on the automatic climate control (not a stick-on). Of course they never came this way "in real life" but it was shown that way in that year's brochure.
This thread is interesting, I never heard of a genuine Nissan stick-on kit. Good for you 98Max.
