Maxima DEAD

I was backing out 2 mornings ago and the car turned off and wont turn back on. Car was running good when it was on.

My SMT wireing is good. Starter keeps turning and turning. I smell fuel. I do not see why or how the crank or cam sensors are bad. If they were, I should/would get a hard start. All my grounds are good. CEL comes on but spits out 0505. No leaks or loose connectors. Nothing has been sucked into the engine. Spark plugs have about 55k on them. Coil packs were perfect the day it happened.

What to do?

hmmmm I can only think its your fuel pump, but since you smell fuel I dont know ..... what is SMT wiring ? ... take it to a mechanic and ask them to diagnose it...make sure they look at for free and then if they find the problem then have them fix it, if its a good price

If the CrankPS or CamshaftPS are bad, the engine may turn over, but it WILL not actually spark. That would explain the raw fuel smell too.

Pull, clean and reseat all 3 sensors and connectors and see if that helps.

That is prob the last and only thing I can do. I will have to do it tomorrow because I have no time today. Interesting how I had no hard starts or any probs before this. The car just shut off and wont come back on.

Sounds good. Try find another max to swap out each sensor one at at time to find the culprit.

The other thing that just came to me (although you mention the smell of fuel), is check that the fuel pump fuse is ok.

The OptimaRedtop is fine. The starter keeps turning and does not slow down. I checked the fuses and they all look good.

im afraid thats going to happen to me one day too. your fuel pump can conk out on you anytime

Thats why YOU SHOULD NOT drive with your fuel tank below that quarter mark for long periods of time, it will burn up your fuel pump. remeber the fuel helps cool downt he fuel pump. and it could go anytime, in a race, on the highway, you never know, thats why you should have at least more the the quarter mark on the gass guage

If your a 5speed try to pop the clutch to start the car. I was in similar situation where I couldnt start my car, but all sensors were fine, I was getting gas, spark was strong. Poped the clutch car started up and kept cranking, starter got killed in the process.

What are some of the readings your getting from your sensors? When I was testing mine, I was reading the haynes and it had a different braket for the mitsu sensors or hashin ( I believe thats only on the crank ref )

sounds like your flooded, try clear flood mode, if still no start, check to see if you have spark. with a spark tester. if no spark check the ignition circuit.

Battery
Ignition Switch
P/N Switch
Inhibitor Switch
Cam Sensor
Crank Sensors
Ignition Coil
ECM

Yeah, a few days ago I was let my friend drive my car and she went EXTREMLY slow on her driveway. So everysingle rock/pothole/twig got hit and ran over. Somehow it ripped the Crank REF sensor ground in half. I twisted it back together and it works now, but I need to solder it in so its nice and strong.
