CV boot replacement

CV boot replacement
Just did an oil and brake pads change, and I noticed the left side outer CV boot has a crack. There is still a lot of grease inside, the cv joint does not look damaged.
I want to replace the boot myself. I think I can take out the big 36 mm nut on the shaft, with a breaker bar and a cheater bar. I dont know how to install and tighten the special straps ( like giant hose clamps) that hold an seal the cv boot to the shaft. Motorvate.ca does not mention anything special about the straps.
Cant it be done without a special tool? Is it necessary to remove the whole cv shaft from the transmission, or can the new boot be installed while the shaft still in?( I have auto trans).
Thanks guys.

I agree. Remanuafactured from Autozone run in the range of $60 to $100 and they have a lifetime warranty, for what that is worth. By the time you invest $30 dollars or so in the outer boot (you need to look at the inner boot at this time as well) and an extra hour or so getting the boot replaced you could have close to new installed.
