My Max started making high pitch noise from front that really irritates me. Initially I thought that it was my brakes, they were ready for replacement> I just did the brake job and noise is still there. I know for sure it is not brakes. When I press the brake pedal noise doesn't go away. It is like metal rubs against the metal. Drive axles look fine too. What can it be?

Do you hear the noise just when driving straight line, in corners, when accelerating, de-accelerating. Hear it only in drive, gone in neutral . . . need some more info.

I can hear it all the time when car moves. Doesn't matter if it is on drive or neutral
Hey lucky im in the same boat as you i thought it was my brakes also i replaced both front and rear rotors and new pads and its still there i think it may be wheel bearings??? Its like a weeeee noise but goes away once im goin faster i can only hear anywhere from between 15-40mph when driving

I have a small crack in my side-view mirror and it squeals really high pitched. Check for any small cracks/holes on your car.

It is clearly metal rubbing to metal sound, I would think that wind sounds a little different. Also I can hear the noise even at low speed.Originally Posted by Caracicatriz

There is absolutely no noise when car is not moving and engine is on. Alternator would make noises all the time.Originally Posted by 9378max
is the noise still there when you turn on the ac? if it is, then its the alternator. this happened to me.

It's wheel bearings. had the same thing, replaced bearings, and it went away. Can't remember exactly, but it was around $110-160 parts/labor at a local muffler shop for me....

Splash shield hitting the back side of the rotor.
When i get out of work today im gonna raise the front of the max to see if theres any play with the front wheels, it sounds like its coming from the front left wheel....

More likely than anything, you barely bent the shield behind the brake rotors and they are rubbing against them as they turn. I had the same problem. I took a long ratchet extension and pushed on the edges of it through the wheel. The thing you have to make sure of is that when you push on the top, the bottom gets pressed against the rotor, so you have to alternate; same with the side. Just keep moving it around and eventually it will go away. Good luck.Originally Posted by njmaxseltd

For me it turned out to be the clutch on the A/C compressor, the clutch was bugger so wasn't disengaging properly and as the pulley wheel was stickiing out due to bugger a/c clutch it was rubbing on the beltsOriginally Posted by lucky_777

I think I might have the same problem. After I step of the brakes at a full stop, when I release it, it makes a weird high pitch "EGRRRR" sound. Once I accelerate, the noise goes away. No idea how to fix it. It makes the car rumble too.
