Q: Fix or sell?
Q: Fix or sell?
1996 SE 5speed
120k miles
main things needed to be fixed:
-ball joint/axle(replaced 5x in past)
-coolant leak
-new tires
-many many interior pieces (sunroof, pass seat...)
So....would you fix these problems or would you just sell the car?

I'd fix it, and take care of the ball joint problem .. Odds are if it has died that many times in the past, something else is wrong ..
Where's the coolant leaking from?
New tires?
Yeah let's get rid of it because it needs new tires
.Why can't I buy a car every time it needs tires ...

do you have the rest of the funds for a new car? try to line something else up before you sell at least. if you fix things yourself, though, it may be worth it to hold onto. if you fix the interior with maybe $300 and do everything yourself, you could add $500 onto the selling price.
hard to say though.
hard to say though.
Are you having these fixed or doing it yourself?
Really depends on the financial situation but it doesn't seem too bad, with this car you KNOW exactly what is wrong. With a new cheap car you don't . . .

It's not worth selling the car for those SMALL problems.....
I need tires on my 18's..... It's still not cranking right all the time..
I just replaced brakes, tranny, clutch, axles, and more...
Now I know what's been replaced, and that nothing else really needs replacing right now...
If you buy another car, you never know what could be wrong with it...
and its not a maxima.....

fix it right and be done. What brand axles were you putting in each time?
tires you do it once and be done for a few years (depending).
I need to change axle, axle seal (i believe), control arm, clutch, tranny, drive belts, chain tensioner and guide, and tires. I wont sell, I have a nice corner in the garage building up with parts just waiting for the right weekend.

well a coolant leak could be simple. You could be lucky and it could be a hose. If its the water pump well.... then my friend you ahve something to worry about. Ive sa id this in many posts. vq30 engines are cheap with low miles i paid 350$ shipped for a 96 engine with 40k. Anything that requires you to remove the timing cover will take just as long as to swap in a new engine. I believe their both listed at 17.5 hours unless your superman :] . Good luck hope you make the right decision.

ok here's the deal...
I checked out the car today at my brother's shop and coolant is leaking from the freeze-up plug. My bro said it's a hard job to replace but cheap. Also, the ball-joint is NOT bad. It's only the bearing, which is also cheap Thank God.
I think I forgot the big story or my maxima. I was hit real bad last year in the rear driver side and replaced the rear axle beam. Ever since, my car has been running like garbage. The accident fuuked up something with the Evap system, which is located right behind the drivers side quarter panel. The cel has been on since the accident (evap solenoid problem). I called Nissan and they said a million things might've went wrong back there and he recommended to buy a whole new evap system, which runs several hundred dollars
I also replaced the transmition which costed me another couple hundred plus a clutch.
The car runs decent now if you put aside that loud thumping from the bad wheel bearing. And the tires, well thats another couple hundred

The only thing that is aftermarket on my car is the budget ypipe, which is rotting away so there's no point of selling that.
I've decided to keep the frame damaged, old, ****ttty idling, axle breaking, oil burning, gas guzzling, coolant leaking maxipad. I can't get anything better for the money right now.
My next car will be a 00/01 Audi S4 (Yes I know the turbos fail-thats why I'm getting a 50k miles warranty)

You should care! Im getting a new car! Isn't it just sooo exciting? I'm leaving the maxima world tho
Anyway...my car is still in the shop and my bro will probably get to it on Monday. Both belts also must be changed so add that to my list of problems
