Bought 95 GLE Have a Few Questions

I've been driving a 94 GXE as an around the town car for 2 years and on Monday the power steering pump and water pump went out. It would cost me nearly $800 to fix (including new belts, etc.) The car is not in great shape so I decided it was time to part ways.

I found a 95 GLE on Autotrader with $86K miles for a decent price that I bought. I have a few rambling questions that I'm hoping to get some help on. Thanks.

1. The car did not come with a remote. Do all 95 GLE's have remote entry ability? How do I check?

2. Do I have to buy a new bumper (SE) to install fog lights? If not, is there a write-up or description on how to do this with the current bumper? I'm assuming that my car is pre-wired for fog lights?

3. How difficult is it to replace the door handles? I have the gold trim and it is fading and I might want to replace the handles.

4. My CEL light came on this morning. I checked the ECU and got code 0505 (5 long followed by 5 short). I searched and found that this code is supposed to mean there are no codes and that all is fine, yet I have a CEL. I'm assuming all I can do is reset the CEL and see if it comes back on later.

5. Can I replace my 95 muffler with the 94 muffler? My 94 muffler is in better shape.

6. I'm thinking on buying a pre-painted spoiler off of E-bay. Does anyone have previous dealings with any of the sellers on E-bay?

I'll start with the first question. Yes, your car is wired for remote. You can get one off of ebay.

I'll start with 6.

Yes i have dealt with people on ebay, i actually bought a bose stereo off ebay that worked for a week. I wrote the people back and they fully refunded the money no questions asked. ( there was a 90 day warranty on it )

This should be as simple as cutting out the cover that's in place (or pop out, not sure which), and the harness should already be there.

Muffler's are pretty much universal if you can weld. Not sure, but the pipe should be the same diameter, might be bolt on but I doubt it.

That was my understanding, I wouldn't quote myself on it.

clear the ecu and see what happens. Maybe you accidently errased the error code while trying to read it. Does the engine run ok?

expect to pay a lil bit. mgiht aw well upgrade the H3's to HID's while you're at it, right? just figured ya needed a little help spendin some money.

6. as far as spoiler off of ebay, i don't remember what color you said your new 95 was, but being about 10 years ol, the paint is gonna show some fade. some colors fade more obviously than others, but if you get a painted spoiler then it probably won't be a perfect match. if you can live with that, cool, but if not, then you should probably just order a primed spoiler and then pay to get it installed and painted all at once. just my .02

So just to be sure, GLE's are ALL wired for foglights whether or not they have them?

My friend with a '98 GLE would be VERY interested in this, he has all OPTIONS but the fogs . . .

Well, the CEL came back on this morning. I guess when I was trying to read the codes yesterday I accidentally cleared the codes. The code that I got this morning is: 3 long + 4 short + 7 long + 7 short. I'm assuming this is 2 codes - 0304 would be a cylinder misfire/knock sensor and 0707 would be rear oxygen sensor. Would either of these be cause not to drive the car until I get them fixed?

lucky...

And before you start a new thread about how to do this, or whether or not you should do it yourself, I will try to help ya.

Definitely do it yourself.

Order a KS from the GD or courtesy or the like. Under $90 is pretty good.

Get the correct socket for the single bolt in the KS (someone correct me, but is it 10 or 12mm?)

Get a swivel socket, extender and you should be set. The right tools make the job so much easier. You'll have to careful, but once you get the bolt goin, it's a breeze. Unplug the old and plug in the new KS, and hand tighten the bolt if you can. Then throw the socket back on and tighten down about 1/4 turn past snug.

What could be a 2 hour job if you remove the IM and intake and throttle body is down to less than 15 minutes for removal and install.

I can attest that the fog light install is very easy. I did it on my 95 GXE. You have to cut out the area where the fog lights go and then it is just plug and play. If you buy the lights from Nissan it comes with some cheesy chrome trim to go around the cut edge. Unless you want to wire a custom switch though, you need to replace the blinker wand with the one that comes from an SE since it has the switch on it.

Thanks greatly for the KS install information.

On the fog light install - what did you use to cut out the holes. How did it look after you cut it out?

I used a Dremel style tool with a straight side cutting bit and then cleaned up the cut with a finishing wheel. I is plastice so any type of fine tooth cutter will work fine. Just make sure you tape off the cut to keep the paint from chipping. I just cut out the entire square that is on the bumper and the trim that I mentioned closes the gap pretty well, but you can make a templet to get a closer cut and leave off the trim. Don't expect it to look as nice as the factory look though, the SE bumper is molded with clean rounded edges. Leaving off the trim will also mean you have to paint the newly cut edge to match the bumper or else the black color of the plastic will be visible. I bouth the light kit from Nissan and if I remember correctly it was $300. I got it when I bought the car new in 95 so there were not any other options at the time. You should be able to find it somewhere else now, but I can't help you there.
