Banged off the rev limiter?

How many of you guys have banged off the rev limiter?

I have shifted at a hair over the indicated 6500 quite a few times but never hit the limiter. I'm not really afraid to, just haven't yet. Just wondering how many .orgers open the VQ ALL the way up.

Nothing will happen. Most of the time you dont need to go that high, I need to because of the 00vi.

I hit it a few times, you just feel the engine backing off. It feels like you applied the brakes some.

Only happened twice to me.

did it twice...was trying to see how it accelerate. first gear, then second, then it hits the rev limiter. didn't realize it untill it cuts off till rev went back to around 5500 (if i'm not mistaken)... then it works normal as it supposed to.

All the time even with the auto. It pulls so hard in 1st and 2nd with the turbo that the auto can't shift fast enough. Doesn't hurt anything, it's just annoying.

sometimes in auto0x it better to hit the rev limiter than to waste time shifting whren ur about to head into a turn....so i hit it all the time.....thats waht its there for....now if ur like my buddy who drives an M3 and goes from 5th to 2nd and the rev limiter cant keep up and turns 3 pistons to tin foil then u got a problem....but it usually wont do any thing

Rev limiter won't keep the engine from over-revving if you downshift at high rpm.

At that time it would just be mechanical force pushing the engine that high.

I have a 5-speed. When does the rev limiter kick in? I have red-lined the engine a few times, ie. taken it up to 6,500 rpm, but since reading the stickies realize that you get the best results shifting at 6,550 going from 1st to 2nd, but below the redline going from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th at the rpms shown in the sticky.

What does it feel like when the rev limiter kicks in?

rev limiter is at 6.5K, try to rev past and the ecu will cut power.

It feels like you stepped on the brakes a little, thats the best way I can describe it. You feel the car backing off and slowing down.

I may have hit it once then a couple of years or so ago. IIRC, I had the tunes blaring at the time.

You might ask what is this old f#ck doing with the tunes blaring, lol! I grew up in the muscle car days and still have a compulsion to crank Led Zeppelin or The Doors through the roof when I hear them on a classic rock station I listen to.

I hope not to hit it again as in other than 1st gear, you're better off to shift at between 6,000 and 6,200 depending on what gear you're in. See the sticky developed by SteVTEC.

I believe it is in the 1/4 mile forum.

its easy to tell when you have hit it because your blow off valve will vent , in all honesty just go out and put your car in neutral and hit it so you will know what it is like....its not big deal. I hit it in first all the time, once the car looses traction it hits the rev limiter very quickly. Its kinda hard to describe how it feels other than the car stutters, and then goes and then stutters, from bouncing of the rev limiter.

Must have hit that 6500 at least 10 times since ive had it. Once while racing, shifted a tad late (auto). Sometimes I like to pull out onto the main road while hitting it, and naturally the wheels spin cause im turning so it shifts to 2nd early, wheels catch, and then it downshifts back to 1, so I force it in 1 and thats when I hit that rev limiter while the wheels are spinning, then they catch, and RPMS go down a bit, then again quickly up ya know how it goes. Hasn't hurt my car in any way to hit the rev limiter, so I cant say its bad to hit that rev limiter. Like how it sounds at 6500

Too true. The revs climb very quickly with a VI.

I heard if you hit the rev limiter more than once your car will explode and open a wormhole that will suck in everything within an 8 mile radius and deposit it in the Andromeda galaxy. Is this true?

Dork! My friend did it in an auto when he was racing once, he was manually shifting it (of course) and it took him a second to realize what was going on, funniest thing I've heard. Went NyaaNyaaNyaaNyaaNyaa clunk into second gear. Don't know if there is any long term effects, as he wrecked the car not long after.

u know looking at this.. this is the stupidest thread ive ever seen. go drive a turbo car and see what speeding to the rev limiter really is. i just sold my eclipse that i had DSMlink on and i set my rev limit for 8K and i was hitting it on the 1st->2nd shift every time because it just spun after spooling(fwd) if you guys are scared to hit the limit then you mayaswell not mod at all. hitting the rev limit is like a part of driving cars for me if theres no top end aka USIM theres no reason for it. but if your FI or 00vi or MEVI im sure yall have hit the limit a few times its not like its going to blow your engine or somthing. I just hate people that drive like a grandma but install like y pipes, superchargers, all that, Then go to the track to watch. I dont know what it is about this thread but it just pinches a nerve
