Magnaflow sucks IMO. It sounds good under normal acceloration, but when you go WOT, it sounds like shiot.
And get a RESONATED Bpipe for sure.

wait, are you just getiing a tip, or a magnaflow muffler? cuz a tip is not gonna change your tone and will definitely not give you any HP gains. your best bet is to just pick up that catback system and if you want you can throw a tip on there.

EDIT: 1,811 posts!

Tips are just cosmetic. They dont do anything else. Mufflers dont add too much power either, do not expect more than 1-2hp out of the muffler. The bpipe/full catback will only add 5-10hp.

BTW my post count > you guys

ive got WSP ypipe, RT cat, WSP bpipe w/ magnaflow resonator and a Stillen muffler. One of the best setups ive ever heard on a max. very deep and smooth.

You're broke, and asking about exhaust mods yet you can't spend $15 for a Haynes manual? Here's my suggestion...get the Haynes manual first (sounds like you could really use one)...readup...read all the other posts on the org already answering the question(s) you asked, then report back here if you still need clarrification on something. A tip still will cost you more than the Haynes manual and won't do anything for your exhaust sound. A muffler will change your sound, but I agree with Kevlo that magnaflow mufflers sound like crap. Basically a riced up civic on steroids is how I'd describe it. Don't go cheap on exhaust...either buy a full catback from Greddy or Cattman or do a custom setup with a quality muffler. I have a 2.5" mandrel bent b-pipe mated to a Borla muffler and my Cattman headers and Cattman highflow cat will be here within a week

If you get an unREASONated pipe you'll have no reason to have it on, having a REASONated pipe will give you all the more reason to have it

so, a resonated B-pipe would make the exhaust quieter.

I disagree with all of you saying a tip won't change the sound. My tip actually changes the sound of my exhaust quite a bit. I prefer the sound of it without the tip but then it just looks like shiot. 500

I have a budget y-pipe, stock cat, and custom catback 2.5", stainless, mandrel, to a raven muffler straight through. At idle my car sounds like a muscle car. Not sounding like a ricer, but everyone comments on how amazing my car sounds, especially the "brumbling" at idle and low end. It just recently started to give a slight buzz in between gear shifts which is making me either want to get a new more mild muffler or suspect that the flex on the y pipe is giving. Either way, I'll take that setup over anything. Super cheaper and better to custom catback it. Any suggestions on mufflers that look nice, flat style, and give a decent sound?

the tip? you mean the 8 inches of polished metal after the muffler? I find this hard to believe somehow.

i think he means the entire muffler. thats what my friend refers to his muffler as. he has just a ypipe and a "tip" and that thing is loud sometimes.
otherwise i totally agree

I'll never understand the fake sounds...why would you want to make your car SOUND like you have a turbo or sound like you have a blow off valve? Cuz I'm assuming its the same people who want the sound that try to "street race" every chance they get. This means that they are making people think they have this boosted car so its even more of an upset when they loose and more embarassing, cuz now you lost with a "boosted" car...i dunoo, sorry for the rant.. just don't get the logic. Thats hilarious though...don't think that i'm assuming that you think the whistler is cool, i just felt like ranting cuz its sad that people actually buy this ****...nice link

Well I bought a 3" diameter tip and it changes the sound. I'm not saying it's a drastic change, but it does make a difference.

on my i30t i put on the y pipe from lssexhaust.com and i have stock resonator with a magnaflow dual tip muffler in the back...it looks...well...different, but i like it. but the real reason i keep it on there is for the sound...very deep sound and the change of note all the way to WOT is nice also

Isn't it that you lost some low end or high end power or something like that because the exhaust is bigger. I read that somewhere in the turbo or it might be this forum that the bigger the exhaust opening (like yours is a 3") you lose power somewhere?

^^^Yes, you may feel a change somewhere in the powerband if you have a 3" versus 2.25" exhaust, but that only applies if it is the actual exhaust piping. Ya know, the stuff that matters between the headers to the muffler.

Just to clarify, when I think of an exhaust tip, I think of a piece that you might buy at a muffler shop or somewhere else for a few bucks and it is put on the VERY end of the muffler/exhaust system. Seriously, putting a bigger/smaller/longer/shorter/shinier tip on isn't going to do a damn thing. Think about it. That little bit at the end of all that piping? The tip slips over the muffler tubing, and therefore the muffler tubing is the most restrictive part at the end. You may have thought that you heard something different when you threw a tip on, but honestly, I don't believe it. If anything, it was probably your mind just telling you that something is different cuz your eyes saw something different. (Brain fart...can't remember the specific word for that. The experiment name...)

Anyway, I beg to differ with your claim.

The tip is supposed to be for cosmetic purposes. It's a 2.5"to 3" tip. I'm just saying that mine changes the sound of my exhaust slightly
