HP Lost over the years?

Since I got the max used i don't know if run good like it was new. The reason I ask is cuz some told me that due to my milage(163k) I lost HP. Now He said that i lost like 30hp , ofcourse i thought it was bs. however i believe u loose a couple hp like 5 n nothing more. LoL he was like Ur engine is gonna blow any minute. Told this cat this engine is avg life span goes over 200k!!

My buddy own 99 Tran am does 14 sec flat in the qm. He was trying tomake me feel bad n make me buy a new car, just because his whole family buys new cars.

Your friend sounds like a moron. 160k is nothing for the VQ. Just because his transam wont make it past 100k doesnt mean every car wont. The VQ is a great engine and lots of people here are 200k plus.

Japan quality>American quality

good story? :wftlol

i'm really wondering how a person could justify saying that a car would lose 15-20% of its horsepower by that milage or by any milage. Why would it lose 5 hp for that matter? What would cause it to make less power?

Now your car not "run good like it was new" is a different matter. There are things you probably should have checked before you bought it since you bought it used, and will still want to check now if you didnt before. The car running well vs. losing the capability for horsepower are two different things.. and one is a load of crap.

Tell your buddy with his ghey Trans Am would get womped by quite a few Maximas that have "high milage" engines.

I'm gueesing since the compression goes down in the cylinders due to ring wear maybe you get a LITTLE (3-5%?) horsepower loss over many many many miles, but 30% sounds unlikely...

My car has 232.7k, and the tranny may go any minute, but the engine is here to stay.

It still feels much stronger than any max I've ever driven, well before this weekend.

This is not the first time someone comes on here and states "Someone else said this, and they have this car that does this, so they must know it for a fact"

That's a pretty quick max. Is that guy a member of the org? On the highway though the trans am would win. Still a good race.

Hh yea, you don't lost 30HP with that many miles unless you have problems with your car.

1) He probably isn't aware of the lifespan of the VQ30.

2) HP loss is normal, especially due to loss of compression. I haven't dyno'd a maxima to find out, but I can't see it being worth the time or money anyway. A maxima is not a drag racer, and I see little point in comparing it to one.

I've been told that due to compression loss and general motor wear, your motor has the capability of loosing apx 1hp/year. Couple that on top of the 21% hp loss from the motor to the wheels and it seems that some of those numbers could be possible. All though it seems unlikely with a car that is fast approaching the 10 year mark, 142.2hp at the wheel is a worst case possibility.

the VQ isn't your "general" motor.

Trans Am is way out of the Maxima's league as far as peformance is concerned.

I think that in a situation in where our VQ30/ VQ35 engine vs a LS1 type of engine, and the Maxima owning the Trans Am on the quarter mile would put us in their league.
Now If you're talkin' stock on stock or even at a different type of race that's a different story. But it's all a matter of time before the Trans Am eventually loses the big race, If you know what I'm sayin. The VQ engine has always been in the top ten best engines IN THE WORLD ever since it came out. I read that on a Nissan Advertisement.

Haha, i can put more onto that- well i was wondering how well this car would hold up, now i dont abuse it by any means but i dont drive it like an older person(no offense to older people) i also noticed the car likes to be driven in higher RPMs, like it feels smoother shifting at 3-4.5k than at or before 2k. I have 69k miles, and Ive only driven GM cars since before this, and some of the pushrod higher mileage V6's get shaky and vibrate when you push them. Now my friend just got a 97 max with 143,000 miles(auto) and that thing is SMOOTH! he DOES drive it like he stole it, he puts it in 2nd going 50 and you cant even hear the engine at 5500 rpm. Sorry for the boring story im just really impressed with this car in general, and wondering how well the VQ holds up if i drive it, well, spirited most of the time. sometimes real slow, occasional 6500 shifts. Thanks for any input guys and sorry to post in the 4th gen section i have an 01 haha
