For Those With CAI... also WINTER PREP
hey guys, i live in New Jerzee, and for those of u who live in the north east, know east coast winters. here's my question. Do I have to worry about waterloc/(snowlock?) with my Injen CAI? i just read a post about some guy converting his CAI to short ram for the winter, but i don't feel like fkin with mine although i know i would IF there was immediate threat to my engine. Anyone have problems with snow/ things ivolved with snow ie salty road spray, sand, etc.? How about cleaning the filter? how often/how should one clean the cone? ...clean the cone... haha that sounds dirty. ok enough with the fart jokes but seriously, i'm trying to prep my car for winter. i've been applying wax like every week to try and brave the salt, i'm thinking about getting new tires cuz the ones i have are POS, and tieing up the plastic protector thingys on the underbody. What else should I do???

i used to have CAI long time ago and never encountered any problem with "waterloc"...
IMO...if u still feel uncomfertable, just swap it out to short ram for the winter, and put it back for the summer...
p.s. don't waste $$ on AEM bypass valve...

yeah, just swap to a short ram. why risk it?
also, i have heard that there is some controversy over cleaning a filter. can't remember the specifics of it, but something about it encouraged me to buy a new filter rather than one. not sure, though.

I wouldn't care or worry about throttle response in the snow. I would only worry about melting snow that leaves big puddles that you may have to drive through. Just be mindful of corners where some puddles might develop.

Most likely you will be fine but just to be safe, I would put the short ram on. I had a PR style CAI and dropped on D2s, went through a somewhat deep puddle and hydrolocked engine, breaking a rod and cracking the block and upper oil pan. The filter was not completely submerged but it still happened, maybe because it was dirty.

Doesn't anyone think Injen would perform well in the NE? I mean come on ... 20 degree weather should help cool the Engine Compartment. CAIs have to kill the stock intakes in the winter . Not that I have Injen ... I have PR.

I put my Injen CAI back in just this sunday. I initially took it out because of the obvious bad placement of the filter being behind the radiator fans. This time around I situated the filter as far forward and away from the fans as posible. I also extended it with a pipe about 4 inches and cut a hole in my splash gaurd. with the colder weather it definately makes the car pull a lot better. Also the colder weather almost negates the heat from the radiators. Also I think combined with the cold weather, combined with wind speed, openness of 97-99 front grills, and the distance from the radiator fans (about 5 inches), little or no heat is makeing its way into the injen CAI.
