new starter ... grinding noises?

My brother replaced his starter a couple months ago because it would just *click* *click* until hit w/ a hammer ... then it would start. Sticky solenoid. .. so he replaced it w/ a lifetime warrantied starter from autozone. It worked fine up till earlier this week.

Now, he's getting the clicking noises but it won't start. He tested the wiring and it was fine.

He went to autozone and it passed the tests .. but when they compared the test w/ a brand new one, the new starter "sounded alot better". Fine, he got the new starter and then installed it.

Now, whenever he turns the key, the car at least turns over but he's getting hideous grinding noises.

What could it be?

A bad rebuilt starter. The bolts haven't backed out of the block right?

yea autozones starters are not the best, he should fo went with the duralast gold which is the brand new one with lifetime warrenty.......tell autozone to do a warrenty refund ,then put that towards a brand new one.
