O2 Sensor Question

Has anyone ever tried to by-pass the o2 sensors? Im talking about using a transistor or resistor in the sensor hole just like the ks mod? just wondering, two of mine are out. Kinna expensive for the real thing, and I wouldnt mind getting the extra mpg.

Wont work . You could install a simulator instead to substitute the REAR only o2 sensor. They run at $30, instead of the $60 sensor. It's not a big saving, but keep in mind simulators are meant for off road (track) use.

Your gas mileage will only improve if you replace the O2's. It only takes a few tanks of better MPG to recoupe the expense of new O2's.

~$150 is a lot, but repairs is a part of car ownership. Purchase two sensor, install, and be trouble free for a while (atleast with the o2 sensors)

you can leave your REAR o2 sensor in, and just bypass the o2 signal with an o2 simulator. Or you can plug it, and make a resistor for the heat sensor signal, and you will still need to bypass the the o2 signal with a sim.

This is a really, really bad idea. In closed loop operation (which is most of the time), the ecu relies on O2 sensor information to determine how much fuel to provide the engine through the injectors. If you simulate a signal that has nothing to do with the actual afr, the ecu will either provide more fuel or less fuel than the engine needs, depending on what voltage the ecu sees. You can end up doing damage to your engine that will exceed the cost of buying new sensors.

If you replace the rear sensor with a simulator can you still pass emission testing?

Quick question. cylinders 1,3,5 are the ones closer to the headlights or closer to the catalytic converter? Lost my manual.

Closer to the cat. Bank two (2, 4, and 6) is the one closest to the front of the car.

you can still pass emission... as long as the main cat is doing it's job. Typically the emissions passes, but they pull an trouble code. The o2 Sensor simulator takes care of the trouble code. If you have a bad main cat, you will still fail emissions.

I've recently replaced the rear sensor with a aftermarket sensor not OEM because I failed emissions due to the trouble code. I've heard they don't last as long as the OEM's. Does anyone know the avg. life of a 02 simulator sensor?

It's probably not the sensor that is bad... if the precats are gone, then the 2ndary O2 sensors are working correctly, and causing the ECU to set off the trouble code. I am not sure how long the sim is expected to work for... I have only had mine in for a week.
