look in the trunk thru the back seat. there is a lever next to the lid latching hook (on the bottom part, not the trunk lid) it looks like a little tab of metal. this lever should be all the way up. when it is down the trunk cannot be opened with the release lever or the remote. the trunk should open with the key, though. maybe the lever is somewhere in between top and bottom.

if moving the lever up and down a few times doesn't help, then try loosening the two bolts next to the little lever and see if the extra "play" will let you open the trunk.

if that doesn't work, take the bolts all the way out and see if you can get the trunk open.

Fiddle with the key in the trunk keyhole.

without crawling through your trunk you need to find a large pole and lift up on the brass looking lever. After you get it open you might want to check the lock and see if it disconnected from the turning mechanism.

Or just use a crow bar and pry it open, then fix the problem...

Well for some reason my key has never worked on the trunk, so one day when I was closing the trunk, one of my friends pressed the open button fro the trunk on my door and it locked it. We tried everything to get it open before I had a 14yo who lived by me somehow crawl through the little opening in the back seat and move the switch to open it. After I looked at it, you can reach it with some type of poll or stick. I would suggest looking at some pictures of how the lock looks and then just go at it. Good luck.

BTW did you key ever work with the lock?

Very strange, I just bought my max and the key doesnt work on the trunk either. You have to do it from the inside or on the remote...hmmmmm
