when i push the window switch on my doors, the lights dim while i roll down the windows, is this sign of a weak battery or just plain normal?

its normal but it shouldn't be like that, they shouldn't really dim much at all unless the battery is dying

my lighrs get a tiny bit brighter when I hit the gas... and they dim a little when i roll the windows down... I'm not too worried about it. I probably need a new battery...
it's old and corroded, but it's been that way since I got the car.

It's normal, both my 95 and 96 do this, I don't think it at has anything to do with the battery. I put a red top Optima in and it still does this.

The reason your lights are dimming is because Nissan picked out a weak alternator for the maxima. It has a slow response time to the load caused by the windows rolling up, lights turning on, quick bass notes, etc. The change of current draw brought forth from these operations done in your car result in dimming because of the voltage drop, you can see this on a multimeter (the car should operate at 13.0+ volts while running and 12.5 volts when off). It has nothing to do with you battery as I have dimming when rolling up windows, turn signals flashing, the turning on of headlights, etc. with a red top optima. These are basic functions of a car and there shouldn't be any noticeable dimming. My previous car didn't have any dimming whatsoever even with my aftermarket stereo system with a 70A rated alternator (maxima usually has 110A). With longer extended bass notes I noticed alternator starts to pump in the juice so I'm concluding that it is just the response time.

This is a possible solution but it is very costly, I'm looking to going this route because of all of the other things I want to plug-in to this car...

Otherwise the dimming you see I wouldn't be worried about it until your brake light and battery light come on while the car is running.
