Limited range of OEM remote

My OEM keyless entry remote has been acting weirdly sporadically. The range is sometimes so limited that it only works if I press the button while directly on top of the trunk lid, which is currently the case. I thought that my battery was dead initially, so I replaced that and it worked for a while and now this afternoon (after successfully using it in the morning and twice at lunch) it is back to the limited range. What is the common problem, the remote itself or something else? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'd actually like to know as well, mine works on and off mostly, lately it's been working pretty well, but at times I have to hold down the lock button for a few seconds for it to arm, keep on thinking that I'm gonna set the alarm off accidentally.

Oddly enough, whenever the alarm system doesn't respond to the unlock, lock, or trunk pop commands, the dome light button will always work...

At other times, I've remotely rolled the windows down, then when I get to the car, the doors are still locked.

Put it under your chin and see if it works.

I think if you dont come up in a certain window of time the car locks again. I notice that mine does that occasionally

my other maximas remotes sucked but my current max's is awsome. I live on the second floor of an appt building and my car is parked on the opposite side of the building and i cant see it from here thus theres a whole other appt and half the building in the way of my remote and car. Now this may be far fetched but somehow i hit lock or unlock and i go out to my car to find it in the state that i push the button with. The first time i did it and went out to see it work i was in shock!

Try to replace the remote's battery, most of the time this is the cause.

Put your finger on the button you have to press to lock/unlock the car and before you press it put the upper part of the remote under your chin and make contact with the remote and your chin...press the button....it should work further away than it normally does when you do this because it will use your body as an antenna

I was going to try this, but this morning miraculously it works like normal at the distances I usually use this remote. The only reason I can come up with is yesterday it was raining. I don't know. Seems like another excuse for me to get a new car.

I've seen the chin thing done before, but never knew what the heck the guy was doing. Still seems farfetched, guess I'll try it when I have range problems.
