Exhaust and Headshield Question

My back hanger broke by my resonator so the resonator was hitting up against the heatshield above it which sounds bad. It didn't do it all the time mostly at low rpms and when I first started to car when it was cold. Well one of my friends took the heatshield off and welded a metal rod from the hanger to something on the bottom of the car. Well ever since then I can feel a vibration under my car when acceling thru the gears. It also sounds louder to. Do you think it is because he welded to a soild part of the car and there is no play in it or because the heatshield is gone? Please let me know. Thanks.

So you wont start leaves on fire that are under you, it shields heat.

I don't have any on either of my Maximas.

If the vibration is coming from your heat shield.

Well I don't have a heatshield anymore and it started doing it but only after I welded a soild piece from the exhaust to the car. I wasn't sure if it was because of that or I took the headshield off.

Theres a reason that the exhaust is held on by rubber hangers instead of being welded to the car, the exhaust tends to vibrate quite a lot, so being that its now solidly welded to your car, it is vibrating the whole car. Just break the welds and reattach it correctly. The fact that you have no heatshield, which actually shields the car from the heat, not the ground, will just make your floor get a bit warm, not start any grass fires.

Oh, well, cut it off and put a rubber hanger there. And don't let your friends work on your car in the future. Get under your car and wiggle your exhaust after you cut the metal peice off. That should give you an idea where any extra play or rattling noise is coming from.
