I have a leak in my timing chain cover (i think thats what it is) where the crankshaft position sensor is. people have told me to replace the washer in there but i dont really know where the washer is/how to replace it/where to get a new one.



wheres the washer? that thin ring within the sensor? how would i get that out?!

There's an O-ring, replace it. Dealer part. (Cam sensor) BTW

does the dealership sell just the o-ring?

If not sold separately by the dealer, you might find individual o-rings at any good hardware store, or at a plumbing supplies shop.

alright thanks. but how do i get that o-ring out? cut it? is that o-ring supposed to be sticking out a little past the surface of the sensor?

The O-ring is just rubber. So just pry it off with a flathead screwdriver. If the dealer doesnt have it, get one from any hardware store. An yes, it should stick out just a little, its a seal.

Bring the Part to the auto parts store and match up an O-Ring. (it does come off of that harness you know)

Is it just me? I believe that there shouldn't be any oil in that area of the engine... That is equivalent to the plastic covers on honda that cover their timing belt. There shouldn't be any oil in there for a leak to even occur. (The sensor shouldn't have any oil on the inside IIRC)

Dude I hope your wrong, I just replaced the o-ring, I kinda had to push it in to the hole because the o ring stuck out a little more than the old one, which completely broke in half when I pryed on it with my screwdriver.
Also, my screwdriver stuck to that magnet on the end of the sensor, I hope nothing got messed up.

The vq30de is chain driven. and that chain needs lubracation. and also that a maxima is no honda. nor are they built the same. the camshaft position sensor is cylinder head. if there was no oil at the camshaft, wouldnt that be a problem?

the nissan part number for a new camshaft position sensor is 23731-38U12 about $60

thanks killcrap, i was thinking the same thing....wouldnt any moving part need lubrication...? i might replace the sensor, although it doesnt appear to be the same as the picture you gave me. for now i just replaced the o-ring i hope the leak does not continue.
