What's the word on remote starters? Anybody know the best ones out there - Also I'm curious about them F#%$ing up the intricate computerized locking system. Any thoughts?

If you scroll down a couple pages in this forum there are like 2 or 3 threads, also check in the audio/electronics forums. Also get with Pearl96Max he'll hook you up.

Ive heard that the Viper remote alarms systems are pretty good. As far as the messing up the key, that is because to use the remote start you have to bypass the chip in the key to start the car and that makes it easier to steal as the engine immobolizer is now usless if they find the bypasser.

This thread belongs in the Audio and Electronics forum that everyone has access to. Plenty of info in there. Anyways any Directed Electronics product will own anything on the market today in security IMHO. This includes Viper, Clifford, Python, Valet, etc. All you have to do is look up DEI on google and there is info galore. Viper, Python, Clifford and other top end DEI brand names are identical varrying one or two options here or there and changing the color of the remote and emblem on the brain. If you look at a Viper remote v. Python one is blue and the other is black. That is the only real difference for you. Along with these though, when remote starting, you will need another DEI product (556U) to bypass Nissan's Imobilizer system and an extra key for this. Stick with DEI though and youll be set, end of story. And talk to Don in Audio for a deal.

Correction: I forgot that I was in the 4th Gen Forum. You actually won't need the Imobilizer Bypass module because you don't have a chip in your key. Unfortunately, us 5th gen and up guys have to buy this $50 module to do this (unless of course you get discounts through work )

I love my remote start ... but I don't think I would get it again just because I would rather buy a performance mod.

I want one even though I'm about to sell my 97 (posted soon- I'm a newb!). I never got one because I thought for some reason it might mess my starter, I've got a new one now, so I really don't want to f**k it up. Has anyone had any problems after installing a remote starter?

Remote starters won't damage anything when installed properly. Period.

I have had my remote starter (DEI valet) and it is PERFECT. It does not mess up the starter by any means. I had it installed by HiFi. One thing I am not too thrilled about is that I may be doing a 5Spd swap since my auto is taking a nice crap so unless I feel like bypassing the clutch then it has to go.

Bypassing you clutch? There is no need for this. Any DEI brand remote start sytem has a pulse when starting wire for applications like this (among other things). You can have your brain pulse your clutch sensing wire to trick the vehicle to thinking that your depressing the clutch pedal. There is no removing or bypassing neccesary. This is a common misconception. Consider this myth busted....ummmmmmmm yea.

Where do you people come up with this crap??? Please dont post unless you have something factual backing it up. Its misleading, wrong info like this that goes through the grapevine making everyone believe it. Its wrong, plain and simple.
