Matching Up Bulb Colors

Matching Up Bulb Colors
So I went out to buy some orange bulbs for my clearance lights today, because I'm soon switching to HID's and thought the orange would look better with it. I also have orange in my side markers. When I bought the bulbs today, they looked to be the same color as the ones in my side markers and turn signals, which are a very deep orange.
Well, to my disappointment, the clearance lights are now almost yellow. So yellow they're almost the same as those yellow foglights everyone is after.
So there's my dilemma...how to fix it? Would it be safe to apply a single coat of some high-temp. transparent orange paint? Does anyone make such a paint? Would yellow + orange still = orange, or would I need red? I have some Testor's transparent red, if need be.
They are cheap $2-a-piece bulbs, if I have to ruin a set expirementing...so be it.
Help me!

Looks like your clearance lamps are modded to be brighter. That probably explains why the color was different earlier. Not all amber bulbs are the same so when I changed mine, I went for hyper yellow and they did match perfectly. My clearance lamps aren't modded to be brighter because I have found out what it does to the clearance lenses.

Also, mine have been modded for 4 or 5 months and have already been through some harsh cold with no cracking or anything...I don't see why people have such an issue with them cracking.

Only 4-5 months?? Had mine for a year until the lense started to show cracking. It looks horrible, plus everytime the clearance lamps are on and you happen to be standing nearby it, it smells like something inside is burning. To me its just not worth risking anything that could be damaging to the car. Besides, I'm not trying to light up the sides of the road anyway. There's only so much I would do for looks alone.

when i had the bright clearance lights on the 96 i would go though the amber bulbs like crazy. the color would burn off after a few weeks.

Ahhh..that is probably why. When mine cracked, it was middle of summer and we were hitting over 100 degrees heat with bad humidity. Not sure if whether has an actual effect on it. But I just know to stay away from the clearance mod.

It's much cooler in San Diego, than the upper valley in Los Angeles. Our temp is usually 10 degrees cooler or hotter than in LA.
