Buying suspension setup Need quick answer about springs
#41
I'm running Illuminas and S-techs Very pleased I live in Maine where the roads go through probably the biggest change from summer to winter out of anywhere and I haven't hit bumpstops as of yet. for the summer I was running 5F 5R and could feel every little June bug I'd run over in the road! They leveled out very nicely good aggresive stance. I think the Stechs could be a tad stiffer all around, but they dropped me exactly what they claimed 2"-1.8". These are not a "smooth compfortable ride" that's what stock is for. Body lean/roll in cornering and brakeing is virtually eliminated

Well, my setting is second from softest!!
Also, as far as the drop, it looks pretty good, anything lower would probably mess up the ride feel even more...
Handling is great though...
car feels a lot nimbler and ...lighter?

Of course, some of the more hardcore racers run extreme drops, like 4", and none of them ever complains about handling... so take it as you will.

With coilovers -- and I'm talking about true coilovers, not Ground Controls -- you get much more suspension travel, so they won't bottom out. And if you're only dropping ~2", they will easily keep your chassis off the ground because they have much stiffer springs.
Ride quality will be similar even though coilovers are similar, because with coilovers you're getting springs and shocks that are matched.
So if you want to be guaranteed not to bottom out, you need coilovers.

Yep. With the price of KSports or D2s nowadays (*~800$ shipped), good coilovers that do their job just fine and might shave 35-40 pounds from your car at the same time, there's just no point in getting stuck/springs anymore. IMHO anyway.
Plus, who wouldn't want something that looks this good on their cars.

stechs published spring rates are about 3.5 kg/mm front and 5 rear. i belive they are progressive so im puzzled why they are only 1 number. eibachs are about 3 to 5 front and 3 to 6 rear. compare that to coilovers which are around 6 to 9 front and 6 to 8 rear. i can convert those to ibf/in if you want. stock se is 2.1f/3.6r.
