weird loss of power?

I was driving the car yesterday and randomly the engine started bogging for power (kind of like the feeling when you run out of fuel), except i had a full tank. i eased off of the gas and then re-accelerated and the problem went away. but it seems like that comes and goes.

any idea what that is? is that a known problem for 4th gen maximas?

well i drove the car more today..this is definately a problem.. i feel it very often now (as if the car is being tugged on and off) when i hold the aceleration constant cruising at local speeds..the car keeps tugging on/off (feels like slight pushes from the engine) any ideas?

i'm thinking maybe the belts are worn?

Can you list any recent maintenance work you have done to the car. Maybe its your car telling you to change some parts.

my mom did take good care of the car is about all i can tell you, the car died a couple of months ago. but i don't think any of the regular maintenance has been on schedule. its at 120k, and i just changed the oil. i plan on checking the pcv valve and changing the spark plugs and air filter. besides that i don't really have the tools or know how to do the rest.

Its defenitelly a good start to do as much maintenance on the car as possible even though you say your mom kept good care of it. Look in the stickies for 60K maintenance. Just some things to do off the top of my head is changing the spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter, pcv, and clean your throttle body and IACV.

liloutlaws - from your symptoms I would venture to guess your problem is either in the departments that speed racer suggested (maintenance is the best modification for any ride) or your emissions systems. Also, read up on Auto-Rx and try cleaning your oil system with it, it helped smooth out my rough idle. Seriously invest your efforts in learning about your EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system, because it is one stupidly designed concept that will surprise you with its ability to create problems.

a ghost code just means its there but it just dosent give a check engine light, it can be found right under the intake manifold it is heald on by 1 12mm or 14mm screw I cant remember, it is kind of a pain to change but it can be done without removing the intake manifold, it dosent make any noise, its just a sensor

ok cool..i'll give you guys an update once i change everything.

2 side notes...

where do you guys buy oem parts online? can you recommend a cheap site?
also need a place to buy NGK copper spark plugs (for some reason Kragen doesn't have it in stock)

and there is something engine oil leaking from the car...i checked all of the components and they're either torqued correctly (filter is on tight). the gauge still has shows the right level. does the oil filter requre any type of additional cross screw (i know they recommend that for some hondas)?

thanks!

I've noticed that whenever I shift from 3rd-4th, land at about 2k and give it 30-40% throttle, the engine will bog momentarily. This is basically the definition of being in closed-loop, right? Is this a problem or is it rather normal?

check the oil pressure sender. It's on the side of the oil pan. It costs like 5 bucks at autozone and it is a frequent culprit for leaking.

liloutlaws: For OEM parts try Pinnacle Nissan. Make sure you get NGK sparkplugs, if your NA its best to get the Platinum Spark plugs. You can go to Autozone or Napa and get your Pure One Fuel Filter, K&N air Filter or Fram, any name brand PCV, and Throttle Body Cleaner. That should get you started. Ooo go to Sears and buy one of those tool sets with 60 or 90 something pieces. That should get you started with all the simple maintenance repairs.

The OIL filter is simple screwed on with your hands. I use a Oil filter wrench and do a 1/4 turn just to make sure its tight. But most of the time I have oil there b/c the filter is put on horizontal and I'm lazy to keep cleaning it.

Regarding Ghost Codes
If the cel is on for a few days and then turns off, did the problem go away, still there without a code or still there with a code? I didn't self check when it was on or since its been off.

A Ghost Code means that the CEL, or engine light, will not turn on. I suggest you start looking in the FAQ section and get familiar with the site b/c your looking to get flamed by the old heads.
