here's my vanilla one. This was on a 99...I've heard that their emissions are different so this may not apply to all years, someone more knowledgeable can answer that.

The common bit of misinformation that I kept running into was that you had to remove the upper intake manifold to get to the egr, which isn't true.

1. Remove the airbox/resonator all the way back to the throttle body. PRetty self explanatory - unplug a few hoses and sensors, loosen a few rings, etc.
2. Remove the IACV, which is 3 bolts and 3 sensors. look in how-tos for more detailed explanation.
3. Now at least on a 99, I could see the pipe that needs to be cleaned, which causes the 0302 code, after removing the IACV, but it's a little tricky to get out. There are 2 12 mm bolts at the top end and 2 on the bottom end.
4. The top 2 come out relatively easy, at least for my b1tch arms.
5. For the bottom 2, there is metal pipe (I don't know what it's for) blocking the bolts, so you have to use open ended wrenches to break them loose.
6. The metal pipe is so clost to the bolts that the nut can't come off the bolt, so you have to loosen the metal pipe, which is done but getting huge open ended wrench (I used 1 1/4 inch, 1 in was too small) and loosen it. Once the nut is undone, you can budge the pipe just enough to slide the nut off, and then the egr tube itself.
7. Mine was absolutely blocked off at one end, and the carbon was hard as a rock, so I kept dousing it with throttle body cleaner, which somewhat softened it up, took an old knife, and went to town on the ****.
8. Once I brokethrough the wall, I sprayed the tube full, let it soke, rinse, repeat. It took a while for me ( I was doing other things simultaneously) but I finally got it clear.
9. Don't forget to unscrew the sensor and clean out that passageway as well.

Hope this helps someone, or if anyone can clarify the difference between 99 and other 4th gens, feel free.

I dug this ball **** out of my egr tube when I put my mevi on... It looks like one big resin ball out of a pot pipe after it has been scraped.
