larger oil filter for the 3.0??

In my Jeep and my Caravan I run an oil filter from a 5.0 Mustang. They have the same threads and the 'stang filter is a lot larger which equals more oil capacity and filter surface area. I only run Wix filters and mobil 1 full synthetic and change the oil every 10k. Is there a larger filter for the Max 3.0? Maybe from a Murano or newer Max or Z car or something? Any help would be appreciated.

yea you can use a mobil1-105 filter, but for it to fit you need to grind part of the block, not worth it if you ask me.just use a good oil and filter and this engine will last forever with out much work.

What does a larger oil filter have to do with the engine block?

if you try to screw it on it will not fit, if you get a dremel or somthing and grind down some piece of metal (i think its on the block i could be wrong) it will. its in the stickies somewhere on this site.

If you're extending your OCIs to 10K, I hope you are doing a lot of highway miles and replacing the oil filter after 5K.

I run good air filters to keep the dirt out and drive both city and highway. Dirt is the bastard when it comes to oil in a car that does no towing. An, like I said, I run full synthetic and a WIX filter. Thanks fokes....

Use an STP S6941.

I use it on my 95 ever since I started doing 6k oil changes.

Physical size doesn't correspond to a better filter.
I worked for a company that made hydraulic filters. The filter media and it's construction was the key to filtration efficiency, flow rate and dirt holding capacity.

If you want a larger filter, get an oil relocation kit from permacool and then you can go as big as the old ford or chevy truck filters that hold a quart of oil!! I don't think we are worried about the quality of the filters since most are good enough if changed regularly. The important thing is adding volume to your oil capacity. A larger filter plus lines and a big oil cooler can add 1 1/2
quarts to your engine. Think about the guys who buy larger aftermarket oil pans!

Use OEM filter not a bigger filter you are doing nothing by doing that. Change your oil every 2800 miles and you are set.
