97-98 Bose CD Player in a 96?

I may need a new CD player in my 96 Maxima because my current Bose system isn't functioning correctly. The AM/FM function works, but the CD player doesn't play the CD's - it kicks them out right after I put them in. Is there any way this can easily be fixed? If not, I'm looking at a 97/98 Bose system on eBay - it's about $50 right now - can you put a 97/98 Bose system into a 96 Maxima? Thanks for any input.

Here it is - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MakeTrack=true

Yep, shouldn't be a problem. I'm thinking about doing this as well, sometime in the future

Yea it will fit. It really wont be worth fixing. When mine broke I brought it into a radio shop and they said it would cost too much, because just to get it on the bench to look at it is $80, then fixing it is another bill.

Just make sure the New Unit is Bose.

Why not try fixing it?

Try replacing/fixing resistor R529 first, and see if that does it.

Most all of the Nissans from 95 and up have the same harness so they can be swapped very easily

Just to be clear, the Bose HU is a Clarion HU which has pre-out to drive Bose speaker amps. So if you don't have the Bose amps, the Clarion HU with Bose marking HU does nothing in your car.

Thatd be some wiring changes out the ****. Id suggest go aftermarket since you have the non Bose headunit.

It's not about BIG sound, its about QUALITY sound. Why would ANYONE want a stereo that removes specific frequencies, adds unnecessary gain to other frequencies in order to make their system sound less distored, but not cover the entire frequency spectrum?

I agree that many people are happy with the sound, but its not even close to up to par for many of us.

its true if your an audiophile... but some poeple have headunits with UNBELIEVABLE freq. capabilities.. and dont use it...

a friend of mine has a tremendous system with a crazy alpine headunit.. that covers somany freq. on the eq and so many setting but he uses the defualt.. adn never tweaks.. most people dont notice.. i know what you mean... i listen to music at home on my Bose accust. system and then i listen in car.. adn notice the dif but for the average person.. its not worth the hassel.. unless you truly are an audiophile who appreciates every note

I do think the Bose system in the 4th gens sound better than the ones in the 5th gens, for some reason I was expecting more than what was given and it didnt do it for me. I do agree that our Bose systems in the 4th gens could be better but it suits me for now. Im going to add a sub to it soon with that special RCA cable adapter. I just need a Bose HU so I can play my tapes without the tape player spitting every tape I have out when I want to rewind or fast forward it. Plus, my eject button doesnt work right. It clicks and the tape just stays in there until I leave the HU off for a while and then when it decides to eject it then it will. So, Im also looking for a newer 98-99 Bose HU in good if possible great condition.
