Heat fixed!

Well as some of you know I have had a long standing NO HEAT problem. I had the heater core changed because it leaked, radiator changed because of a broken neck thermostat changed and temp sensor changed and still no heat. Finally brought it to a mechanic and he says "It's either a problem with you auto climate control or heater core valves not opening properly. $200 to diagnose + whatever work I have to do"

I said no way, I'll deal with no heat before i shell over $200+. Well I'm drivin to work the other day and notice steam comin out the front of the hood. The radiator was leaking. 1 year and 5 days after install. Warranty was 1 yr. So I go to Autozone and get the lifetime warranty radiator put it in [easiest job I have ever done on my max, took about 1 hour]. So I get done and the heat was a little better but not HOT....I was not to surprised because of all the problems with the lack of heat problems I have had. So I decide to flush out the heater core. I connect a hose to the inlet and spray. A very small amount of water comes out. I repeat the process over and over again and then BAMN a loud gush of water comes out and flows pretty hard, something was in there and not allowing the water to flow through the heater core. I re-assemble everything and now heat blazes out. I actually have had to turn the heat off a couple times .

Sorry for the long story just very excited to have heat for the 1st time in 1 1/2 years...

Thanx njmodi, I think it was a combination of a bad radiator [ never looked like it was flowing when i looked inside] + a clogged heater core.

Yup. When you say you ran water through the heater core, did you go right into the inlet at the firewall? Is it easier to get to from above or below the vehicle? This might be something more of us should do (even as a maintenance item)...

From the top, not to difficult to get to. I dis-connected the hose by the valve not at the firewall so i could use the inlet hose to spray into. Without the hose there isn't enough room to get the nozzle in there and spray, so i just stuck the hose nozzle to the end of the hose, took off the bottom hose and spray away.

Good info. I'll take a look at mine in Spring. I'll probably just do it when I drain/flush/fill the radiator.
