Installing STS and Can't get the stupid shift **** off

I was about to install a "Nismo" (eBay nismo) STS last night but couldn't get the GD shift **** off. I really tried to muscle the crap out of it! Good thing I hadn't gone under the car yet, b/c it didn't budge.
It's a RActive that looks like this:

The bottom part looks like a retaining ring, which I tried to twist off also, but only moved it about a half revolution. I bought the car with it already installed, so I don't know how it went on. Anyone know how to get this thing off?

Gotta remove the bottom part of the ring and then screw it off vice grips are your best bet just make sure you use a towel or something if you are reusing the ****

Also, eating wheaties in the morning before trying this makes a difference.

Are you sure the bottom 'retaining' ring isn't just a cover for some allen screws?

Just curious.

Also, maybe the owner super-glued it on? LoL

U have to get that ring on the bottom off first. Then there will be 2 - 3 allen screws, and then possible super glue lol.
