Dash bulbs have green caps?

Does anyone know if the 194 style lights behind the speedo and tach have removeable green caps on them? I was reading the how-to at http://www.richardjasaitis.com/MaximaDash.htm on changing the bulbs, and I would consider taking the caps off to make the gauges white if it were possible.

Thanks

yes they do and they will illuminate orange if you take them off.

I did so . . .

That is my old Bose head unit. I did it again to my 99 bose head unit. Looks good.

Hmm, so it would have a bit of the G35 look? Thanks for the pic.

If these won't work, does anyone know where to get bulbs that will give a white light? I found some but they are $10 each, and it's just not worth it at that price.

ebay, you could get a bag of 25 or 100 for a dollar, maybe a $5 for shipping.

get a nice white color with a good MCD rating and enjoy the look

The clock doesn't havea bulb... the climate control bulbs have blue rubber caps on each bulb.

Wait, you own a 98 GLE and your speedo and tach bulbs are not white? Or do you mean even brighter?

My 98 GLE has is white speedo.tach.gas.temp with red needles...

The instrument gauge is white during the daytime, but when illuminated everything but the needles turns dull green.

Just take your bose apart and take off the blue caps. Easier than soldering in new orange/amber leds.

and you wont burn your finger(s)

the bulbs usually have blue caps to make them somewhat white. But if your looking for the "hyper-white" color you need different bulbs. go to www.autolumination.com and look for 194 bulbs. they have some krypton white ones i think for 1.49 each.

I paid about $3.15 for two led 194 hyper white bulbs from an Ebayer that was located in Hong Kong. Shipping for him to send it here was $3.00 so basically I paid $0.15 for them, not bad if you ask me. Here is a link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2pcs-...spagenameZWDVW

My lettering at night matches the lights on the bose HU, such as the "play" or tuning arrow buttons. We're not talking alien slime green, but it's certainly not white on mine. Needles are red, like yours. I'm going to give the white bulbs a go-ahead and see what the effect looks like.

I was worried about the LED bulbs putting out a beam of light versus the way a filiment bulb puts out sort of an orb of light. Do you have these LEDs in your dash? Please share your experience.

I do not have these in my dash, they are used as license plate lights, and you are right, they do put out a pretty good beam, so I guess LED's are a

So then what color would the climate control light up as after they are removed, and how can I change the color of my clock?

they are blue caps, and I'm not sure the color output it would give if you take them off.

I assume an orange/amber color, since thats the color I got after taking them off the Bose unit.
Try it and see, it should take you about 10 mins to take everything out and put it all back in.
